"Cat"
Contributing Editor
Call
me "Cat." I'm now 40ish, married, with two
beautiful stepkids. In real time, I'm an older and hopefully
wiser version of the gal who hangs out with Jack McCoy on
Law & Order, prosecuting crimes ranging from
garden-variety drug offenses to second degree murder. In virtual
time, as the Cat, I'm an aviatrix flying combat
jets and prop-driven fighters that I'd never be able to put
to the test for real.
I've been into that since about 1996. ATF Gold and Flanker
1.5 gave way to EF-2000 version 2.0 and Total Air War, and
since then I've owned or flown every major simming title released.
I've been privileged to be a beta tester for several
leading sim titles, including the public betas of Falcon 4.0
for patches 1.04 to 1.07, the original IL-2 Sturmovik, Fly!
II, and Project One. I also have free-lanced as a simulations
reviewer for Computer Games Online magazine and WomenGamers.com.
I was WG's Resident Hardcore Flight Simmer for two years.
I am particularly interested in modern air-to-air combat and
air defense suppression using fast movers like the Su-33 or
F-16CJ to fight the modern SAM threat. I love the challenge
of mastering complex flight systems while carrying the fight
to the enemy in a fast-paced virtual environment.
I'm pleased to be part of the SimHQ team, and hope to help open
the door to this most enjoyable hobby to more women in the
future. From VVS ace Lilya Litvyak, to American WASPs Nancy
Love and Jackie Cochran, to the Ethiopian air force's
Aster Tolossa, and the women who fly in support of the
war on terror today, women have made an ongoing contribution
to combat aviation almost since its birth. The current generation
of female simmers are the friends, sisters, and mothers of
tomorrow's women air aces. Online, we can help resurrect the
hobby we love, and keep the world's best aircraft, the military
aircraft, flying in the virtual skies.
