Feature: A Visit to the Russian Bear
Moscow Aviation Salon (MAKS) 2007 Travel Report

What You Get

Once you’ve sorted out the Russian road traffic (slightly insane, includes things like cars going off the highway into the grass passing traffic jams and creating new ones), tickets, schedules and the security check at the entrance, you won’t regret the effort it took to get into this show. The first thing you’ll notice is that in Russia — just like it’s supposedly the case in Texas — everything is a bit larger. The static display is huge and varied, the flying displays are loud and fairly close to the crowd line. If you brought enough money, there’s plenty of rare and interesting books, DVDs or military items to be bought at one of the hundred kiosks littered all over the area. Food is spicy, drinks are cheap, and the booth girls are hot! So is the weather, since the last days of August tend to be a stable, prolonged warm continental climate around Moscow.
