Employing the Vikhr – Part 2

A DCS: Black Shark Technical Report

by Erik “EinsteinEP” Pierce

As a follow-up to my Employing the Vikhr article, here are some videos showing the Vikhr in action in DCS: Black Shark.

Here’s a video showing a basic and slow-paced Vikhr attack against a stationary target. You can follow along with the numbered steps in the article or download the track file here.

In this next video I employ the Auto Turn to Target and Ground Moving Target modes. Note how the Auto Turn to Target keeps the helicopter (thus the Vikhrs) pointed in the same direction as the Shkval as I change from target to target, or as the moving target scoots on down the road.

youtube-two

In this clip I show how to use the Burst Selection switch to fire two Vikhrs simultaneously at a target. With the imprecise guidance of the Vikhr, double shots are useful to improve likelihood of a lethal hit on an important target or a heavily armored one. The method of employment is no different from the other methods: just be sure to press and hold the weapons release button to ensure both Vikhrs are launched.

youtube-three

In the following clip I demonstrate the Vikhrs in air-to-air engagements. Things happen pretty quickly, but I engage the Su25T with Airborne Target and Head-on Aspect modes. Due to the low speed of the Hind I use just the Airborne Target mode. Check the close-ups to see whether or not the attacks were effective!
