Playing Experience

In the first review of the Desastersoft Wick vs Dundas add on I focused on the campaign platform. In this review, instead I will focus on the mission design by walking through a typical Desastersoft mission from one of the campaigns, in this case, the first mission of the 74 Squadron Battle of Britain campaign.

First hurdle if you can't wait for the English release and download the German version — the campaign blurb!

OK, as I said, I am no babelfish, but I'm guessing it is something about getting my butt up in the sky, defending the empire from the evil enemy, and something about our invincible weapon, RDF or "radar". I assume this is a good thing.

The next challenge is the mission briefing.

Now this, we do need to be able to read. But no worries, just follow these easy steps!

First, locate where the files are stored. In my Windows 7 installation, they are located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\desastersoft\missions...

Next, in your web browser go to the Desastersoft folder where the campaigns and missions are stored.   Next, in your web browser go to the Desastersoft folder where the campaigns and missions are stored.

Then locate the mission briefing file. Then locate the mission briefing file.

Now, open up a new browser tab in Google translate, set it to automatically translate German to English, then click on the briefing you want to read. Voila! (Sorry, verschleiert!) Instant understanding!

Remember this technique, and keep your Google Translate window open, because you may need it later!

Okay, let's fly!
