Review: Laminar Research X-Plane 8

Back To Page 1

Another of my favorite airplanes to fly in X-Plane is a free add-on created by Paolo Matricardi: the Aeritalia G.222 twin turbo-prop utility aircraft. The G.222 features a custom panel that looks really sharp and an external 3D model that is absolutely gorgeous.

The G.222 flies like a dream; the flight model feels exactly how I would expect an aircraft of this type to feel. Using the G.222 to fly into small grass, gravel or dirt strips is great fun.

The nice thing about the X-Plane community is that their talents and interests are so very diverse. A wide sampling of nationalities can be found in the X-Plane community and various people have allegiances to varying types of aircraft. From heavy jets to exotic military airplanes to small general aviation aircraft; they are all well represented. This Piper PA-24 Comanche is modeled on the very plane owned by a member of the X-Plane community and it is beautifully done. (PA-24 Comanche by Heinz Dziurowitz and Steve Fermano)

The basic IFR panel of the Comanche reflects the fact that this is a 1960s era aircraft. Once again we see that a well designed an implemented panel can really lend authenticity to an add-on aircraft.
