Gameplay

The campaign is a series of missions that take place just 3 days after the events in the first GRAW. There are new toys (equipment) to use in GRAW2. You have a mule, and can also call in support from other types of armor and air assets. The campaign is actually pretty good to do once or twice, but will get boring and frustrating especially with your team AI. I find it easier and more fun playing the campaign online with real players instead of the AI. The campaign is short though. More like an add-on to the original mission than a full game.

What is new to the PC version is the more tactical aspect of gameplay along with some new tools. Like an overhead tactical map where you can assign your AI teammates waypoints. You can also put them in recon mode to keep them better hidden and quiet. It seems to work… most of the time. You just got to remember to use “baby steps” with your AI teammates. Don’t give them a single waypoint from point A to point B across a dangerous and congested area. They will get stuck and you will wonder if they went AWOL on you. Small waypoint-to-waypoint markings are required for success. You can have your team hold fire, engage, or suppress fire, and they will do what you say for the most part, though occasionally they will continue to suppress fire where you directed them, but not respond to an enemy walking up on their 1 or 2 o’clock position. The tactical map is pretty cool. I actually replayed a couple of the missions with just me giving my teammates orders and letting them do all the work. Kind of like a RTS game (how dare he say that!).

The missions and gameplay are fun and worth doing. It’s your AI teammates that will cause you to quit playing single player and go online to play.

I recorded a few minutes of gameplay in this 42MB zipped wmv file. See what you think.
