Finally,
after what seemed like an hour of side by side excitement
(in reality only about a minute and a half), I got a good
exit off T4, enough to put the #29 car on my rear bumper.
I held the inside line a little longer until I got my arms
to stop shaking, then eased out my driving line to get back
into the best racing groove. All that for 4th place —
but it was very, very fun.
In my
rear view mirror I could see some more racing excitement was
brewing in the positions behind me. #6, 6th place car, made
a nice move past my previous foe and got right onto my back
bumper. I ran even laps with him until I made a mistake on
the T1 entry, went wide, and let him in on the inside. Staying
wide into T3 to make room for him, #6’s superior speed
carried him right past me as we exited T4. I quickly slide
from the outside to inside line in the hopes that I could
regain my position within a few laps.
