Rounding the corner.

Strategy

In contrast to the previous race, strategy is not as important at Spa as out and out pace and driver skill. There are numerous passing places on the circuit (La Source, out of Eau Rouge on the run up to Les Combes, the braking point into Kemmel, the Bus Stop etc etc) so a suitably determined and skilful driver should find a way past. Rain is often a factor at Spa and this can play a part in strategy as a greater flexibility in pitstops can pay dividends if it starts to rain during the race. One or two stops is the way to go with one stop being preferable in terms of time but two stops allowing greater flexibility and is the way most teams go. Spa is one of the few tracks where the pit action is not more exciting than the racing!
