Touring Cars
If you're more into European Touring
cars there's the ETCC Evolution from team RSR.
It was awarded Best Mod of the Year 2003 by Blackhole
Motorsports visitors.
And
there's DTM 2002 from Team GSMF.
Apologies to both mod groups for not going in depth with your
mods. I've had them installed and they are both top quality
in every which way you care to look at it; they install easily
and flawlessly, car models, driving physics and attention
to details are outstanding. In fact, after I buy a larger
hard disk I have to reinstall them!
Classic Cars
Weekenders is a mod that
looks towards classic or vintage motoring and gives us a chance
of driving a dream car from childhood years. It's not about
the latest technology and the fastest lap, but more about wide
slip-angles and soft suspensions. You could take these cars
for a spin around one of the classic circuits and imagine you're
a young Jim Clark driving and drifting these motors. Learn more
about Weekenders here.
American Muscle
Motor City Online was a unique
concept by EA but sadly it was terminated and the servers
taken off-line.
A band of intrepid modders have worked (and are still working
tirelessly) to bring MCO back to life in the form of a mod
for F1C.
Their efforts are well worth the download for fans of American
Muscle cars as you can see from these
screens at F1 Sim Links. Get the mod here.
These Mods Are Also Highly Recommended
As the above list is not even
complete, you can look at screenshots and learn more about
available mods here
at F1 Sim Links.
Another comprehensive site for links to downloads is SimRacingWorld.
Definitely save this
link!
Why no
mention of GTR X Spec? There has been some controversy
over the conversion of SimBin's GTR2002 to F1C. Besides SimBin
asking that a conversion not be produced, the download site
seems to be currently offline.
New Trends
Finally, let's have a quick
look at two of the latest mods for F1C: F1 1975 and
FIA GT 1997. In fact, these two are not even full-blown
mods yet, but demos have recently been released by the developers.
As mentioned initially, these days full mods weigh in at several
hundred megabytes and that is an awful lot of download time
unless you are on a broadband connection.
With the huge amount of quality mods for F1C, the time
has probably come for a lot of us to try to prioritize and
to choose which mods we want to download and install, as opposed
to having them all over for a party on our disk drives.
So what would be more natural for developers of mods than
to start making demos that are of a more manageable file size
and let's us try out the mod before going for "the big
download".
It's a brilliant idea and a good trend. I hope it continues.
It certainly helps raise the profile of a mod and keeps you
interested in the final mod if you can tryout the demo first.
