Replays
The Papyrus replay system in NR2003
offers a multitude of camera views as well as the unique window
from which you can easily use all the camera views. You can
maximize and minimize the replay window, save sequences and
edit them. What makes this system special is the seamless
way in which it lets you choose between viewing the current
action on the track or bring up situations from the replay
memory with the minimum of fuss, with just a few intuitive
clicks.
The replay studio that was added to the series with NASCAR
Racing 2002 Season is also present in NR2003 and it lets you
do further edits with replays to the extent that you can make
movies in the replay format, adding comments, music and importing
from several replays.
NASCAR Sim Racing tries to emulate the Papyrus replay user-interface,
but the manipulating of the system is not quite as easy or
intuitive to use as the Papyrus system. NSR does offer lots
of views and the replay quality has been improved tremendously
over previous ISI based sims, like the Formula 1 series from
EA, or the NASCAR Thunder series, to the extent that watching
replays is very enjoyable and the output could easily be used
for making fine-looking movies with 3rd party software. One
omission is notable however, and that is the inability to
see the percentage of throttle and brakes applied by the driver.
To obtain this information you have to load the telemetry
tool.
With the limitations imposed on it as discussed in the section
concerning graphics, the NASCAR Heat replay system does offer
very good-looking replays and basic replay functionality.
There's even a bit of telemetry information in a separate
window, showing the percentage of throttle and brakes applied
by the driver.
NR2003 extends its overall lead while NSR shows good pace
on this lap, but overall second place is tightly contested.
