Feature: Driving rFactor
A Fast Lap at Mills Metropark Long

T6R (Complex 1): The all important entry point to T6R is from the left-hand side of the track as this will provide the straightest and thereby fastest line through these two turns.

In the image below, and when studying the track map I keep  thinking that the entry should be from further to the right, but this makes the negotiation of the complex itself messy for me and would result in the car being positioned awkwardly, for the quick right-left flip through T6R to T7L.

Complex1

As soon as you are confident that your position is right and you got the car in control following the front-end lightness described above, depress the accelerator once again, then feather it when you enter T6R using a lot of the kerb, and depress the throttle again as you exit. These small throttle adjustments help you keep the car in check as you are driving a fast lap. If you are in a race you might wish to save fuel and in such an instance the amount of time gained does not compare favorably against fuel consumption.

Complex1

T7L (Complex 1): Maintaining the power, you drive over the kerbing on the left hand side in T7L. Keep the car in reign. It really wants to carry you wide and onto the grass. The kerbing on the left can unsettle the car if you drive right over it, so the trick here is to find the sweet spot where the suspension can comportably keep up with the extra load it receives from running over the kerbing. You’ll know if you’ve overdone this section, as the car will then be thrown off the kerb and onto the road rather hard. Even when driving aggressively you have to be smooth!

T8L: T8L again is more a kink than a real turn. You won’t need to make a perfect apex in this turn as the following short straight leaves some — although not a lot of — room for correction before entering T9. The car again wants to go wide, and this is one of the few places where there is actually room for it to do so without dire consequences. You should however try very hard to arrive at T9 on the left-hand side of the road, leaving enough room for your braking into T9R.

T9R: This turn is very fast and I take it in 3rd gear. Clip the kerb at the apex lightly, and on exit use all the road available, including a bit of kerb as you stay in 3rd before braking for T10.

T10L: Another 90 degree, 3rd gear turn, and this one leads on to the longest straight at Mills, so it is crucial that you get a good and clean exit out of this turn. Use a bit of the kerbing on the apex but make sure that you don’t use too much of it, as unsettling the car will mean risking a spin and you’ll suddenly be facing in the wrong direction ;-)
