As expected, "Chunx" and Jens got away from the starting grid cleanly and out-accelerated all of us in the mad-dash to the first corner.
The start was fairly easy for me, since I was sitting on the pole and didn't have to worry as much about AI buffoonery. But it was kinda cool waiting for the standing start, sorta like Steve McQueen in my favorite racing flick, "Le Mans." Sitting there in a tin top Prototype that could nudge 200 mph on the Mulsanne straight didn't hurt for immersion, either. – "Chunx"

Despite knowing that this race was going to go on for a long time, I’m sure all of us had pounding heart-rates and dry mouths as we jockeyed for position during those first few seconds. The first few turns were indeed exciting as cars drifted around on cold tires and the human and AI cars were all mixed together in relative close proximity.

The battle between "Chunx" and Jens would last the entire race with both racers showing their patience and skill as they drove their cars to the very edge (and beyond!) of their capabilities. If you ever have a chance to eavesdrop on these two as they drive it is amazing to watch them perform. They are definitely students of racing, and with that knowledge, coupled with natural ability, they are able to maximize the performance of their machines.
On the first few laps, my main concern was Jens. He's a very good, very consistent driver. – "Chunx"
At the start, "Chunx" and I laid down long rubber-tracks as we sped off into the first corners, rushing towards the Dunlop Bridge. I lost time on the straights but gained it in the fast sweeping corners and "Chunx" was in my sights. Then, I spun out in the Mulsanne corner, at the end of the straight, in the second-slowest corner on the circuit. Rats! The difference between "Chunx" and me grew to about 10 seconds. – Jens
"Chunx", Jens, and Dave ran 1-2-3 through the first few turns.
