Mika Hakkinen's 2005 DTM Mercedes

Mika Hakkinen's 2005 DTM Mercedes

For Touring Car fans there was a lack of Aussie V8s (which was a pity) but to make amends Alain Menu’s title winning Williams Renault was running up the hill along with the Nissan Primera which won the BTCC title the following year (great if you have played TOCA Touring Cars 2!). Matt Neal’s Honda Accord which claimed title honors last year also was present along with its illustrious driver while Andy Prialeux demonstrated not only his WTCC winning BMW but also the BMW Sauber F1.06 which is making steady progress up the F1 grid in the hands of Jacques Villeneuve and Nick Heidfeld (who drove it over the weekend). For DTM fans double Formula 1 champion Mika Hakkinen was on hand to demonstrate his current DTM ride as well as showing off last year’s MP4/20 along with former DTM champion and F1 hopeful Gary Paffett.Rally fans had plenty to see with both Richards Burns and Michael Park being remembered through a line up of both their former cars. Additionally current WRC cars from Ford (driven by Marcus Gronholm), Subaru (driven by Petter Solberg), Mitsubishi and Peugeot meant that there was plenty of sideways action up the hill. For more classic rally fans there was the classic Alitalia Lancia Stratos, the Castrol Toyota Celica GT Four and more Deltas, Quattros and Escorts than you could shake a stick at. Colin Mcrae brought his new rally car along (to show us what we can expect from Colin Mcrae 6!) and, best of all, the new foundation set up in memory of Richard Burns and Michael Park got off to a flying start.
