GTR2 - Part 3

To lock or not to lock. GTR was completely open and all content was available to the user from the first click of the mouse. GT Legends featured an unlocking scheme which we found too restrictive and unnecessarily parental.
GTR2 attempts to find a suitable balance between the two schemes. The FIA 2003 and 2004 seasons including all the official tracks are available right from the start and as a consequence will not have to be unlocked.
Additional championships and track variations, including tracks that were not on the FIA GTR 2003 or 2004 calendar will have to be unlocked by completing the challenges in the driving school.
While some loathe having to unlock anything, others find such a thing immersive and fun. This reviewer is basically against having to unlock content because it is a "game" element which has been transferred from other genres like first person shooters, and I find that it does not transfer very well to motorsports and simulations, unless you also turn the context into a credible motorsport environment.
Having said that, I find that the locked content suitably consists of extra championships themed around a specific car like the Porsche, or around groups of cars, such as American makes, and as such it is not interfering too much with the enjoyment of the primary focus of the game: The FIA GT Championship.
If you want to unlock everything, a short-cut has already been published: Create an empty file with notepad called "SDNDTG.DYN" Simply open notepad and save the file in the GTR2 root directory. It must NOT have any other file extension on the end of it, and must be in capital letters.
Or, just get the file here.
Put it in the root folder of GTR2 e.g., "C:\Program Files\GTR2" or wherever you have it installed.
There is no need to make a new player; it will work with your existing player profile.

Helping new drivers into the world of simulation is a noble cause and should be executed in such a way that immersion and fun while learning is aided. One of the ways of initiating new drivers which I have always found immersive and fun is the implementation that involves an actual instructor/pupil training.
