The overview graphs from MoteC presented below also reveal very little in terms of differences between the two cars. The diagrams show from top-to-bottom the following information:

  • engine rpm
  • corr. speed
  • throttle
  • latitude and longitude G-forces
  • selected gear

rFactor GSMF PCC05 Overview

Little wonder that we need bigger and more powerful processors considering the amounts of information that has to be processed by our sims several hundred times per second!

So it seems like we are still relying heavily on subjective impressions tempered by what we know, or rather, what we think we know.

In this comparison GTR2 feels incredibly polished and well-rounded. Some say that the Porsches in GTR2 are the best yet. The PCC mod for rFactor is also a stunning piece of work. Which sim is is better or more real, is really up to you to decide.

Conclusion

If you're still asking for which of the two is the better, my personal answer to that question would be...neither! The reason that I give this answer is because the IROC Porsches in the Power & Glory mod for GTR2 offer me an iconic rear-wheel drive, rear-engined car on classic bias ply tires, unrefined and raw, and lacking almost everything in modern aids like downforce, splitters and super-grippy tires. The huge tray stuck onto the rear of the car is the only concession to modernity and the quest for downforce. If the difference between GTR2 and rFactor Porsches is in the grip, the difference between modern Porsches and classic Porsches is in the tires letting the driver explore and recover from bigger slides. It is very true that sliding is not the fastest way to get around a race track, but it certainly is a lot of good fun.
