The Power and Glory for GTR2
by Jens
"McGonigle" Lindblad
Introduction
Trail braking into the first, fast left-hander of the switchback turns at Castle Combe there is a crest in the middle of the turn and as you arrive at that spot with the rear of the car going light, at the exact same time you must change direction for the coming right hand turn. The turns become ever tighter so you have to decrease your speed all through this section of the track before finally choosing just the right moment to come back on the throttle exiting the turn, sliding it just a tiny bit because you long-to-hear the noise of that Porsche Boxer engine.
This is absolutely great stuff feeling so involving and engaging because the GTL Workshop Team have taken great care to preserve the little known idiosyncrasies of the cars as they were back then.

These cars promise excessive power-to-weight ratios with skinny cross-ply tires that generate predictable handling, generous slip angles as well as quite noticeable body rolls from relatively unrefined suspensions. The Power and Glory mod which has just been released for GTR2 is Part One of a Trilogy that will take you back to the sixties’ and seventies’ Gran Turismo racing scene. A time when Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Dan Gurney and other Formula 1 and 2 stars competed in touring cars against the greats of rallying and saloon racing.
Put quite simply, this mod restores the Power and Glory to the cars of that time by properly reproducing the distinctive tire technology used during those years. All you have to do is make sure you have downloaded some classic tracks in order to try out these driver's cars in close racing against AI or human opponents online.
The GTL Workshop
The team behind this mod consists of some very prominent and capable persons in the sim racing community ranging from modders and motorsport historical experts to beta testers. They have been working on this mod with the blessing and assistance of Simbin to use the car models from GTL. Kudos to Simbin!
Since the release earlier this year of the Powwer and Glory demo, which contained the International Race of Champions or “IROC” Porsches, the mod itself must surely rank up there as one of the most anticipated mods ever.
SimHQ recently had the opportunity to connect with the modding team and to test drive a late, 99% complete pre-release version of the first installment, and what an experience it was! We rushed to bring you our impressions in what must be one of the first, if not the first review of this mod.
