Review: The Power and Glory for GTR2

On the Track

Control

Right away I noticed that the modding team has made sure that you can use the 900° rotation of the Logitech Driving Force Pro and G25 wheels, and still feel very comfortable and confident when driving the cars. You simply increase the steering lock in the setup screen in the garage. Setting your wheel at 900° in a simulation that supports the full lock-to-lock means that you are able to make much finer and more precise adjustments with the steering wheel which ultimately benefits your car control and lap times.

The Power and Glory mod leads the way in this respect unless I'm very much mistaken, and I do hope that other modding teams working on mods for any ISI engined sim will take the cue and build the 900° support into their mods, or offer patches to include it.

I feel that being able to use the 900° steering lock is becoming increasingly important as an enhancement to realism (at least) on the level of NaturalPoint's TrackIR and the Real Feel Plug-in for rFactor.

Setups

The cars are very sensitive to tire pressures so the mod team suggests using tire pressure adjustments as a means of balancing the car and tuning its handling.

You will perhaps notice that when traveling down a straight, accelerating or braking, some cars might diverge slightly (or more than slightly) left-or-right, even if you're keeping your steering wheel perfectly straight and the track is flat. This occurs because real cars were slightly asymmetrical due to the fact that they were manufactured not by industrial robots, but my human workers of flesh and blood and in some instances were fitted with special parts manufactured in small numbers and to bespoke specification.

The documentation contains information on left / right weight balance and can give you a hint on how to adjust the setup of your car to prevent this kind of behavior. Usually a slightly asymmetric setup in ride heights or tire pressures will do the trick.

AI

I ran a couple of races at Oulton Park and Castle Combe in such cars as the Cortina and RSR's and the AI seems well spread out in terms of speed and capability. As expected, they did seem to slide a bit in the rain at Oulton. It is very nice they are not "inch-perfect" all the time, and having to stay on the lookout for a "spinner" ahead of you tends to keep you sharp for when you go online.

Multiplayer

Racing against real people you should carefully consider which cars to use, or at least institute different classes. The Porsche RSR's will in all likelyhood lap the entire field on a regular basis.

Love that XKE
