SimHQ.com - Motorsports Zone: Feature - The Eight Hour Daytona Endurance Race

For SimHQ’s Eight Hours of Daytona there was a limit of ten positions available on the grid. Rather than providing the intended controlled situation with fewer teams/cars requiring less interaction, it nearly proved disastrous limiting the entry list to ten cars because of the ensuing race mortality. Nonetheless, there were only nine entries in the event, no doubt some drivers still feeling the "sting" of 2007s Le Mans race debacle and deciding to sit-out this event.

Teams of two-to-six drivers could enter one car in either the LMP-1 or GT-1 class. These teams were then left to develop a car setup, strategy, and driving schedule for the 8 hours. The track was set to 3x time compression in order to simulate a complete 24-hour lighting and track temperature cycle. The race would start at 1:30PM track time, the same as the actual event.

All of the Prototype drivers chose the R8, but the stage was set for a battle between the Corvette and the Aston Martin in the GT class — a battle that has perpetuated for many years on real racetracks.

The following nine teams entered the SimHQ Eight Hours of Daytona Endurance Race.
