That was by no means the end of it.

"Goon", after leading for over a 100 laps was not going to let the race slip by and he jumped in the draft straightaway heading to the chicane.

I hogged the inside line even though I knew that would slow down my chicane exit possibly giving "Goon" another chance of drafting past, but after so many laps of chasing him down, I was just going to try and stay ahead.

My fresher tyres saw to it that I exited the chicane ahead of him, but he was right in my draft again.

A bit of a weave later, trying to break the tow, we had arrived at the start-finish line to start lap 288 with a two minutes and sixteen seconds on the clock.

I'm committed to my line, as Vikz drifts a little wide, and we touch bodywork!

I'm desperate to stay on my line on the chance that Vikz has gone too deep and I can repass on the exit.

He does indeed go deep, but gathers it up and wins the corner.

In Vikz slipstream all the way up to the chicane there is no way past.

But I have a brief flash of hope when he gets a little out of shape in the chicane itself.

I nailed it, laid back into the slipstream and scorched round the banking after him.
