A Fast Lap at Lime Rock Park

T7R: We’ve almost made it around the entire track and the final challenge is to not mess up “Turn Last” as it is colloquially known. There are plenty of dangers ahead with many a new iRacing driver spinning out on the exit or going off into the woods.
The trick here I think is to lift off the throttle slightly, maybe only 10%, and then turn-in slightly early, developing a feel for the line the car is going to take and then following it through at full throttle from the apex onwards, once you’re satisfied with everything; line, trajectory, chassis movement. The car should then be fully controllable all through the rest of the turn, and at the start/finish line the clock should say a low 1.04 or maybe even 1.3.xxx for the chicane-less configuration, and 1.07 or 1.06.xxx with the chicane. But then, you’ll probably be a lot faster than me with practice.
During those 60-odd seconds you will have taken on board so much information about your car and its behavior on track, processing it simultaneously, and taking smaller or larger corrective action on numerous occasions that it will feel like you have already participated in a 10 lap race.
Now do a 15 lap race and add 10 or 12 other drivers and their cars!
T7R Race Notes: Be prepared for cars spinning out and crossing back out-of-control across the track exiting this turn, especially in the rookie races. Until you have a good idea about the driving skill of your fellow racers, it may be a good idea to hang back a little, being a careful and clean driver picking up spots by benefiting from other drivers’ misfortunes.
