Review: Power & Glory v.2.00

Installation

Like version 1, the installer searches for a copy of GT Legends on your hard drive and if it is not found you are prompted to put GTL in your CD/DVD drive, as owning a copy of GTL is a precondition for being able to run this mod (obviously you’ll need an install of GTR2 as well).

This mod started as a conversion from Simbin’s GT Legends but with correct historical tires, or as close to it as you can get several decades after the last batch of rubber left the tire-manufacturers’ facilities. The Simbin origin is why a copy of GTL is needed to install the mod. Over time however, the GTL Workshop team has added new models and improved existing ones to the point that the real GT Legends sim is the Power & Glory mod.

Menu

The installer recommends using option 1 which will copy from your GTR2 install the necessary files into a new folder. You are able to specify in the next step where to copy the files to, as well as indicating where your GTR2 installation is located. You will also be given the option to import your existing player (.plr) file into the P&G folder. This means you won’t have to reconfigure your wheel set up.

After installation you can run the P&G patcher which will truly perform magic with the force feed-back in P&G — I tried the pre-release ffb effects and later I received some even better effects that will be incorporated into the mod when it is released. I definitely recommend patching the force feed-back settings as the improvement is huge.

You can also patch some terrain related files and as they are not track-specific but put files into the shared folder you won’t need to patch again, after adding more tracks.

Installation was easy after I had reinstalled GTR2; my existing GTR2 install was missing some crucial files but everything went fine once I had reinstalled and patched to GTR2 v. 1.1.0.0.

Contents

The tracks from GTR2 are copied over and a quick run through of the available tracks convinced me that I needed something a little more monumental to test this mod and do the exquisite car models justice, so I immediately installed Virtua LM’s Le Mans and Mid Ohio tracks.

The standard GTR2 tracks are; Anderstorp, Barcelona, Brno, Donington, Dubai, Enna, Estoril, Hockenheim, Imola, Magny-Cours, Monza, Oschersleben, Spa, Valencia (not the F1-circuit), and Zuhai.
