Turn 10 Studio’s Forza Motorsport 3 has some very convincing physics and a highly detailed tire model that make it a fun title for the hard-core sim crowd. Here's the in-wheel program settings that make for Forza Motorsport 3 feel just right for me:

SEn: 210 or 270. You might seem that a full 900 degrees of rotation in the wheel is more realistic, for racing you'll want much more responsive steering than 900 degrees of rotation can provide. Also, the 900 degree setting just doesn’t feel like the response and linearity of a real street car. Or course, I mostly drive FM3’s R1-R3 class race cars, rather than street cars.

FF: 33%. This setting adjusts the total force feedback strength produced by the internal motors in the wheel. When racing I like — and need — the tactile inputs from the force feedback code to tell me about the grip level of the tires. But at the same time I don’t want the FFB system fighting my inputs, which would degrade my finesse and slow me down. 66% can also work — although it's a bit firm. 100% provides too much resistance and slows my lap times.

Sho: 66%. These motors are much smaller and weaker than the PWTS force feedback motor, and don’t really impact steering finesse.

dri: 001. This is a tricky setting to get right, and takes some dedicated practice time in each mode to find what works best for you. Too much "dri" and you’ll find yourself with over-active steering and a lot of oscillating corrections. A too-low setting can make your virtual car feel like it’s plowing through thick mud. After a lot of experimenting, I liked 001 best, because 002 and 003 made the wheel too responsive and put me in nasty oscillations while OFF seemed too numb.

AbS: 75%. For me, this setting turns on the vibration motor in the wheel and the brake pedal around the time I lock the brakes up in FM3.

In-game Settings

To have the 2GS sequential shifter function in the same manner as a real sequential racing shifter, set the controller mapping to "Switch Gear Up/Down" to ON, which swaps the game’s shifter commands so that pulling the shifter back actuates an upshift, while pushing the shifter forward actuates a downshift.
