Documentation

Our review copy of the G25 included two installation pamphlets and a special Press Kit. In the documentation, and on their web site, the G25 proclaims itself as compatible with PlayStation 2 consoles.

Visual Presentation

From the moment you open the box, you’ll realize the production values are quite high on the G25. Upon removing the protective plastic bags, your olfactory system is immediately treated to the smell of fresh leather on the wheel and shifter, and your eyes will feast on the stainless-steel wheel spokes, paddle shifters and pedal feet.

The G25’s press kit says that “the wheel, shifter and pedals are made with premium materials such as stainless steel and leather, delivering the look and feel of parts from a race car cockpit” Really, the G25 looks more like it came from an elegant touring car rather than a bare-bones race application. It sure does look mighty fine on my gaming rig’s desktop.

The wheel’s leather is soft and slightly padded, and the stitching is quite nicely done as well. There are two raised areas at the 10 and 2 o’clock positions for added feel and precise wheel positioning. The shifter knob is also wrapped in leather, as is the included shifter boot which effectively hides a polished steel shifter stalk.

The pedals present themselves with stainless steel faces, studded by black plastic grip dots, and have exposed retaining hardware that indicates they could be removed and replaced should anyone offer third-party pedal faces for this product.

Overall the initial impression is one of quality and attention-to-detail, restrained only by mass-production and price point constraints. It’s one good-looking peripheral.

One plush package.
