Ok, here are some new ships in testing. The Matsu DE is a late war entry. The Etorofu class is an escort.

You can see that the original Mogami is now the Tone class.. I've also added the Unryu which is essentially identical to the Hiryu. The Tone will also now launch H6K search planes, not sure why this was omitted.

Spent most of the day "building" them by making changes to default models. Kinda fun though time consuming enter/exit game many times to check changes..

Then have to test in game to ensure they don't exhibit weird behavior. In one case for no apparent reason certain damage caused the ship to crash the game. Odd stuff, but fixed.

I'll release at least a couple.. I have six so far \:\)

Okay, I know you are just using the vanilla Mogami as a stand in for the Tone, but

The Tone/Chikuma have 4 turrets forward, not just 3, and do not have the raised hanger/flight deck aft of the superstructure.\

And obviously, the Mogami class as originally constructed did not have the raised hanger deck aft either.

I still thought those pseudo battleship/heavy cruiser hybreds had to be the stupidest thing the IJN could come up with.

They would have been better off converting every scout cruiser to a full up carrier. What is scary is they continued to build these even after the war turned. They would have been better off converting the ships completely into carriers if they were going to go through the effort.

Yah, we may try and add the fourth turret forward, but there is something different about the code over SH3 and we haven't cracked it yet.

We're also adding the Tsugaru (single ship) and Harashima class, and adding the No17 and No19 class ML. The No13 will stay a minelayer until it disappears, but the No17 and No19 will be converted to escorts at the appropriate date, with the addition of depth charges. More to come \:\)

Why would a CA have huge flyingboats like the Mavis (H6K) aboard?

It'd be cool to see a real model of Tone, gotta love that bridge on top of the lower stack bits, heheh.

Um, they did not, at least that I am aware of.

Tthe seaplane carriers and seaplane cruisers carried mostly E13As, F1Ms, and E8Ns, with maybe the occasional A6M2N.

This mod adds three new ship classes, the Unryu, Nachi, and Tone. We divide the Mogami by two to get the Tone Class. The Mogami now has two rear turrets and no aircraft, and the Tone has added the Val as an active aircraft.

This mod includes the reduced bomb load Zero, as well as improved particle smoke effects. It updates the Japanese minefields with increased density (12/km) and shallower depth.

Gun load times have been slightly increased, and ammo loads increased slightly.

The recognition manual background now has reduced gamma.

The missing campaign files have been restored (empty files in Campaign folder). US Patrols have been added to American waters (mod of the US-TaskForce file).

If you want to eliminate the ENTER key firing torpedos, go to the Data\Cfg directory and rename the file to Commands.cfg and then copy over your current Commands.cfg file.

Installing this mod will overwrite your current Mogami class. If this wreaks havoc with certain Admirals we deny responsibility.

Hmm...Val is a wheeled divebomber, but there is a Pete in the game, i.e. AFS_F1M_Pete, or perhaps I'm missing something here...

You got it right, my mistake, its the Pete not the Val.. We have now divided the No 13 into four ships.. No 13 (Minesweeper) No 17 early (Minesweeper) No 17 late (escort) and No 19 (escort). New paint for all of course. While we could change the equipment file for a single ship over the course of the war, we couldn't alter ship type, making the clone necessary. This way the campaign engine will select the ship correctly as Minesweeper in one phase, and then as Escort in the later war.

14 new ships added to date... probably a couple more to come. The first EXE will include four or five along with stuff above. Other ships completed:

Mikura Escort
Etorofu Escort
Matsu Destroyer Escort
Armed Medium Cargo
Tsugaru ML
No. 13, 17 MS and 17 and 19 Escort (converted MS)

btw I was casually playing with the mission editor tonight and I selected two torpedo bombers to attack a Japanese task force. Both dropped torpedos.. and both hit home. One of the planes was then shot down and .. the pilot bailed out. I watched the chute hit the water. Nice detail!

Anyone know how to actually pick up a survivor? I can see them through my binocs and even with the boat stopped nearby the survivor button never lights up to let me click it.

No, not at this point. New ship added this morning KAGERO DD and revisede campaign files for IJN for 1941.

New EXE is up.. 20 MB. You can always install to a TEMP directory and manually move the ships..

I have a suggestion regarding the IJN cruisers, though I am admittedly unsure of whether or not you can do them in SHIV at this time:

After studying the profiles of the various cruisers, I think the Takao would be a better base model for the Tone and the original Mogami. To create the Mogami, all you would really have to do is elevate No. 3 turret and face it forward, and drop No. 2 turret to deck level. To create the Tone, just clear the No 4 and 5 turrets from the aft (and add the no 4 turret forward if possible) and add the planes,etc.

New file up. This includes a new WIP version of Mogami based on TAKAO. Also includes increased hitting power for US torps.. needs testing but so far I like it. Also added another revised campaign layer for 1941, an airbase at Pearl Harbor and a new US patrol layer.
