Good time of day.
I am representative of the VSI IL-2 virtual pilots school. Not long time ago we started an online-war IL-2 project based on DCG by Lowengrin.
Briefly about it. In this project we are trying to simulate WW2 air war on Eastern Front as close to the reality as possible. Attack aircraft may (and must) destroy enemy troops on frontline and enemy reinforcements on the way to front, thus reducing enemy's ability to fight and assisting in moving frontline to own side advantage. Fighter aircraft may (and must) provide cover for own attack aircraft and intercept enemy attack aircraft, thus helping own ground troops to survive and to hold the frontline.
We have some russian-speaking people participating in our project since it start, and more people are coming. Now we want to invite some people of English-speaking community to take part in our project.

Aircraft will be upgraded according to front line promotion and development of operations.

Briefly about rules of the project:
- It is forbidden to fly for both sides on the same map.
- Deliberately flying for the opposite side with aim to destroy as many aircraft or ground targets of opposite side as possible (by dropping bombs under own aircraft immediately after spawning on the airfield, for example) is strictly forbidden. Whose who will try to do something like this will be banned for a very long period of time.
- Vulching is permitted without limitations.
- Paratroopers shooting is permitted without limitations.
- Lives limit per mission - 3.

Basic info about "how it works":
Aircraft losses are replenished once per week by 4 wings (that's it, if your side will lose more than 4 wings of aircraft per week, it will have no planes to fly one beautiful day \:\) ).
Destroyed bridges will be fixed in 4 days period.

Due to weak Luftwaffe resistance to massive VVS offensive strikes Germans were pushed back on Crimean territory. Frontline is now on border between Kerch and Crimean peninsulas, and heavy fighting goes on. Luftwaffe and VVS gathered all availaible forces to fight for air superiority and support ground troops. The war continues. Who will prevail?

Very interesting, wing-vo. How do you find Lowengrin's DCG in your system compared to what such a solid online war system like NULLWAR offers?

Well, NULLWAR engine is better when it comes to different limitations of aircraft and ordnace distribution among players (according to their rank). But for now we don't want to add rank limitations(everybody's eqal , nobody have to fly scrappy airplanes just because he\she is new player on our server).
Besides that, NULLWAR engine permits some ground war control by players, such as setting general strategy (attack/defence) and so on. We are concentrating on the air war, leaving ground control for DCG. Sometimes it generates something a bit strange, but real-world generals did make errors too . In general we think what ground war on our server is comparable with that of NULLWAR.
We are trying to make our project fully real-time (with day/night cycle), but for now it's not done due to problems with DCG.
Since our project was started not long ago, determining exact values of some parameters (such as ground and air units quantity and replenish rates, number of player "lives" per mission etc) is still in progress. Sometimes different bugs appear due to incorrect DCG settings and it's bugs, but we generaly fixing them quickly.

Some more info about us.
Limits
1. Live limit. For now it is 3 lives per mission (1 real day).
2. Planeset. It is mostly historical, thought balanced a little.
3. Side. You have to fly for one side in single operation. But you are permitted to switch side on next operation.

Frontline is moved by armored units. So, if where are no armor units near frontline, frontline will not be moved. So, attack aircraft have primary objective of attacking enemy armor (to assist own armor to move frontline). Fighter aircraft have primary objective of protecting own armor against enemy attacks. And bomber aircraft have primary objective of bombing enemy bridges(they will stay destroyed for 4 days) and supply columns in 15-20 km range from frontline to prevent reinforcement of enemy's frontline units. So, if both sides have their frontline armor destroyed, frontline won't be moved until reinforcements arrival to red or blue.

FAQ:
Q: Nothing to bomb, all ground targets are destroyed
A: We are trying to simulate real war, but of course not 100% historically accurate. War is going on in real time, meaning 1 virtual day = 1 real day. Map restart is on 18:00 local time every day. This means which generator puts new ground targets and moves frontline according to the summary of actions of passed day (destroyed planes and ground targets). So, "all ground targets are destroyed" is a normal situation cause war is going on and units may be lost due to attacks of the enemy. At 18:00 targets will be recreated according to a new situation on map.
Q: Where are red units on blue part of map, are they lost they way or something?
A: Generator is moving frontline, but sometimes it doesn't moves ground targets according to new frontline position. In 1-2 days blue units will be moved to the area, and red units will be destroyed. Or you can destroy them yourself .
For example, luftwaffe field near Anapa was empty yesterday before map restart, AAA was placed where after restart, and maybe today airplanes will be placed where as well.
Q: Briefing is not displayed, only info about previous events availaible.
A: Is is ok. Briefing will be displayed after you will choose your plane. There will be no direct target for mission, only sectors where active fighting goes on will be listed. You can also use <target console command.

That's true.
We examined features of DCG and desided what it will fit well for the purpose of imitating ww2 in our server. With time going we understanding "how-it-works" better, and adding new features to our project. But where are some problems with DCG which we cannot solve ourselves.
For example, we still cannot make game truly real-time. We tried to set time on our server to GMT -8:00 (so what 8:00 in server would be at 18:00 in Ukraine) and let time on server flow in real-time scale. But for unknown reasons generator always set time according to server's time. So we had to set fixed time on server for now.
Another example, we want to add "search-and-rescue" downed pilots feature, but as far as we know it is impossible.
But in the whole, DCG fits well for our purposes, letting all type of aircrafts (attack,fighter,bomber) combine forces to achieve victory.
Still, we hope what DCG bugs will be fixed, thus helping us to make project better.

Development of VSI WAR project goes on.
First steps was Crimea41 map and to test DCG and check what we can do using it. When step 2 was made - Cuban42 map. We desided what it will be good to use most realistic planeset possible. However, frontline position will not be realistic, it will be moved according to player's activity. No we doing step 3, which we called VSI WAR - 65, meaning what each real day corresponds to WW2 day (real date - 65 years). So, today it is Semptember, 03 1942 on our server. Theatre of operations is Cuban.

Comment:
After heavy fighting German Army was able to concentrate armored strike force and start major offensive operation in Crimea. Air operations were very limited, due to poor weather. Red army suffered heavy losses and was driven back to Cuban.

Good info and screenshots, wing-vo. Make me wanting to blow off the dust from IL-2 and join your server. Now these trenches should be visible very well even from 8-9K m altitude. Also good should you dare to dive on them from 3K, or just to avoid them all the same.

VSI WAR news. Starting from 15.09.2007 we plan to increase AAA protection of airfields and ground units significantly. So, command work will be required to efficiently attack ground targets. This will make project more "historical" and, as we hope, more interesting.
We are still waiting for the news about new DGen releases, if any are planned. First of all we want "real time" bug fixed, since we want to use real time feature in our project.

Simply we have enriched a map with ground objects, stationary artillery, ААА is creates an atmosphere of real war.

On server il2.in.ua:2100 now we have put the registration.
About this need I spoke long ago. But presently we put this into practice.

Before the beginning of the flight in The VSI WAR -65 project you have to pass the registration of your pilot with chosen side for which you will fly.

Hereinafter, you may be registered on forum www.vsi.org.ua and tax application for enrolment in staff chosen by you side for discussing flight and planning combat action.

Changing the password and registration.

If you already flew earlier on our server, that recommends to change its current password since it presently corresponds to the call sign under which you fly on VSI WAR-65.

You necessary to pass the registration on page of the statistics http://il2.in.ua/stats/index.php?navigation=static/reg/index.html and change your password.

Entering the password under included profile of the player:

Enter on server il2.in.ua:21000 with specified at registrations call sign;
choose the side, for which you were registered;
in window of chat you enter the following symbols: <logon<pass , where pass it's password, which you have indicated at registrations of the pilot;
create in chat channel Server and send the password through this channel (this channel is not public and your password nobody will see);
If you not have faithfully indicated the password, that you in chat receive the message: "Password not faithfull". If your password is correct the Server will confirm this by message: "Password is Accepted".

If you did not enter the password, that you now and then in chat will receive the message "Enter the password" and in an effort to fly without entering correct password, you will be removed from the Server.

If you have finished the procedure of entering the password you may proceed with flight!

The Red army by massive efforts have displaced blue army on southeast from Stalingrad and has promoted FL!!!

The Blue troops as before hold in Nizhniy Chir and Kalatch.

The Arrival of the reinforcements is difficalt... many bridges are damaged. The Technical crews by titanic effort raise the bridges during the day, but systematic raids storm trooper reduce their efforts to zero!

All main resistance was carried in air where power ВВС РККА and Luftwaffe fought for full mastery midair.

I'm familiar with DCG, my question is more related to how you managed to work a web-based back-end for it. I'm not a computer science guy, so creating web code to interact with DCG is beyond my understanding. Apparently you folks have conquered the coding... and I'd very much like to see how.

I don't mean to take any players away from VSI. In fact I'd like to fly a few missions with you folks to see how it all works. I must admit my end goal is to duplicate what you've done for my own squad's events.

In VSI WAR -65 Project have occurred some changes.
Have added the function of the real time (change day-night) time correction - 9 from real (+2 GMT).


Have added the function of the weather change conditions.


Have occurred change on available weapons.

Prohibited:
RP (the reactive projectiles) on fighter, kinderwood on LAGG, MK108 and BK3,7 on BF 109, 500 kgs bombs on BF 109 and hanging tanks on fighter.

In the same way have renewed pattern of the current Kuban map of February -July1943.

Our server/project VSI WAR-65 has received new base, a platform. Now ping should be stable. Have begun work on a new platform with Kiev map.
We plan to spend some campaigns:
• Chernigov-Pripjat campaign on August, 26th - on September, 30th 1943 (because of a stop of a server campaign we will prolong till October, 25-30th),
• the Kiev offensive campaign, the Kiev defensive campaign on November, 3rd-23 December,
• Zhitomir-Berdichev campaign on December, 24th 1943 — on January, 14th 1944,
• Korsun-Shevchenkovsk campaign on January, 24th February 1944.

From 29.09 to 30.09 Nejin and Vereteevka were completely taken by RKKA forces.
Vereteevka airfield is under heavy artillery fire, so luftwaffe is unable to airstrike Nejin.
Main forces of lufwaffe are concentrated at Anisovo airfield, from which reinforcements and supplies are shipped to Veresoch, Kulikovka.
From wehrmaht base at Berezna tank reinforcements are shipped to frontline, keeping it near RKKA airfield Kruchiloch.
Main RKKA strike force concentrated at Priluki and Ichne, small parts of it are transferring to Nejin.

total slaughter set for the germans, i'd say throw in some mig3s, p40 field mod, hurri field mod and p39 to even up the planeset.. g2 is still the best of them all. and would make it a little more even for both sides.

1. Project VSI WAR-65 is constructed on the concept of a reconstruction of historical fights in territory of the USSR and Europe.

2. In the project the basic vector is historical reliability of planes which is took part in operations in territory of the USSR and Europe.

3. Project VSI WAR-65 is not build on game balance, but on established facts (presence or absence of planes, technics on concrete territory)

4. The time factor is (full 24 hours) is the second concept of the project. Reproduction of events in territory of the USSR and Europe 65 years ago.
