I know there have been a few threads on this but I have not found what I have needed to know.
I have XP Professional (new full install). I've installed JF18, patched it to 1.01F and added the nocd crack. First of all the nocd crack doesn't work, no biggy I just leave the cd in the drive. Second whenever I get into the game my view just points straight up. I can cancel this by pressing the 2 key on the numpad but I have to hold it in and the view won't pan back down. Everything else looks really good graphically though.

Your thoughts? Driver issue maybe?

My system
Asus A7M266
AMD 1.4 gig CPU
256 meg RAM
Voodoo 5 (with default XP drivers)
SB Live 5.1 (with default XP drivers)
WD Caviar 30 gig ATA 100 5400 RPM
QF 4 gig
8x DVD

Seen that before. I believe it's your joystick setup or the joystick setup in the game.

Hoot out!

Well without my joystick it's working fine but...I kinda need the joystick lol. Just got Hoe's V4/5 drivers, where can I enable FSAA. If I can't enable it back to 98SE for me.

I'm using HOE's V4-5 drivers on my V5-5500 with no problems at all with JF-18 at 2x or 4x FSAA. I also had the joystick problem, but it was because XP had loaded a stock driver for my Gravis Blackhawk Digital. When I loaded my own driver the problem went away...

Good luck..

Maniac. I can help ya mate!

Same prob just after I installed XP.

The prob is with XP and the gameport address for the HAT#1 UP signal + F/A-18. There is no problem in any other game. It may seem like your HAT1U is stuck but it isn't.

The fix?

Simply reassign HAT1U as NOTHING in your keyboard assignments. By default it is set at LOOK UP. Just keep clicking on HAT1U with your mouse until you GRAB it then drag it over to the list of commands and drop. It may seem difficult to do since the HAT1U key will always try to keep it showing on the screen, but it can be done.

First press the keyboard key you want to assign. Then while HOLDING DOWN that key, use the mouse to select which function you want assigned to that key. Drag it over and drop.

If nothing else, just edit the key commands file manually.

I have the Stickworks digital F22, running newly installed Win XP, and experienced the same problem with the view rotating up on entering the game. TT's fix of deleting the Hat1U assignment appears to be a functional work-around; however, the real problem seems to be that the JF-18 is receiving a continuous H1U control input. This is evidenced by the fact that in the keyboard control assigment screen any keypress immediately reverts to the H1U key. This is not good.

Anyone have a recommendation on a better fix for this issue??

Habu, there is no fix unless you can figure out what address, or what signal ID is sent by the analog Hat1U.

If you can figure out what address that is, then you may be able to figure out where else this signal is coming from.

After some testing I have determined that the H1U input only occurs when the F22 is in program (F22) mode, with certain programs. It definitely DOES NOT occur when the F22 is operating in windows mode (as a DX joystick) or in program mode, when the Stickworks test program is loaded.

Here is the solution, for the F22 anyway, straight from the Stick man:

"I've had that reported by a couple of people. If you go in and remove all
of the entries for Hat1 (BTN H1U, H1UR, etc.) that seems to fix it as it
then declares the POV and F-18 is happy. If you do need to program the hat
to get what you want, then you need to go into the F-18 options and remove
the reference to the POV so is the sim isn't expecting one. It's apparently
the combination of no POV on the stick (Hat 1 programmed in the F22 file)
and the POV reference in the sim that causes the anomaly."

I found the best solution is to remove all programming for the H1 button. Then JF-18 recognizes it as a POV. No more constant H1U input.

Habu, I think that's what I suggested above. Oh well..

To clarify a bit, the SWF22 in Windows Mode always provides a POV. As soon as anything is programmed to H1 and the stick put into F22 mode, that POV is removed as far as Windows is concerned. If you go to Game Controllers with an F22 file loaded and running that programs anything on H1 position, you'll see that there is no POV represented in the display.

I don't have JF-18, but the reports I had from other SWF22 users are that there's a POV assignment that can be made in the sim itself. The problem apparently shows up when that in-sim POV assignment is made, but the stick doesn't actually have a POV on it (as is the case with the SWF22 when H1 is programmed). The sim expects a POV, none is forthcoming, and the sim gets confused.

You can use it either way, the secret is to make sure the stick provides what the sim expects. If you assign the POV in the sim, then you have to set the stick up to have one. If you don't assign the POV in the sim, then you can do what you please with the hat itself and the sim won't care. It doesn't really matter what you program to the hat, it's just not having a hat when the sim thinks you should that causes the view shift.

XP and FA-18 is obviously a problem as I tried an unpatched game earlier and it wouldn't even start.
If I patch the game will it be ok then?
Are there any other issues I should be aware of?
Many Thanks!

Georgio. F/A-18 may blow up your computer.

You must patch JF-18 to 1.01 for Win XP. Then it works fine.

I have the same problem on Windows ME, and on 98 (when I was using that). Whenever I Install the game, when I first fire it up, the view goes straight up. I have corrected this simply by calibrating the joystick from the windows control panel....worked every time.
Oh, I have just a regular 'ol joystick as well...nothing fancy, just a trigger and a missle button. Something I also noticed was that when I would do a wipe/reinstall of the drive, the joystick was not recognized automatically, (this caused the same problem in the game) and I had to tell the system what I was using.
