I rebuilt the version switcher so that it now supports switching between 4.04m, 4.05m, 4.071m, and 4.08 by simply clicking on an icon.

Before somebody gives me the separate install speech, this can be installed into one version of IL-2 1946 v4.08 and you will get all 4 versions from just that one install. Serious space savings!

I made it into a self extracting installer for ease of install.

I need a place to host it, it's 118mb.

EDIT

Now available at Mission 4 Today, Thanks Gamekeeper!

PM WWSandMan for a link. He has it uploaded onto his site and can give it to you.

He may post it here later.

WWSandman, thanks for that. I sort of modified this and substituted the ver07 stuff with the 'latest' as I want to just keep 4.04m, 4.05, 4.06 and the 'latest' (which is now 4.08), so I copied all .SFS files in the main '46 folder as well as in the 'latest' one too. It works.

Btw, I've noticed that there is a massive difference in one of the SFS files: in 4.071 is around 530K, but in the latest patch (4.08) it goes over 15MB.

Thanks guys !!!!

Works great. I have a friend that only has 4.04 and we like to do coops and every once in a while I still go on Hyperlobby,, mostly as a target!
So the version switcher is just what I was looking for.

Spitfire, that would be known as piracy, which isn't what the switcher is for.

Indeed, I don't think it will work, as there is a lot more to the versions than the files in the switcher.

The switcher acts to limit content being used, turning off access to plane models and maps that exist in the simulation. The data is still there, but it's disabled or hidden from the setup.

BA_Dart! What are you talking about????

Both Me and my buddy have legal discs.
He has not yet picked up 1946 but has all the rest.

If I want to switch from 4.08 ( which I use off line and for Hyperlobby) to 4.04 so I can go online with him and do a coop or two,,,, How is that piracy???

We have both been faithfully buying every expansion that has come out.
I don't understand.

Dart just read your posts backwards there spit. Looks like he thought you were using the patch to step your buddy UP to 4.0.8 rather than what you intended--that you were stepping DOWN to 4.0.4 with.

If I use the version switcher can I switch from 4.08 to 4.04 and build missions in the FMB? I imagine the missions that are created in the FMB are upward compatible, but not backward compatible. Didn't 1946 add new objects? A copy of 1946 arrived today, but I'm right in the middle of doing some work in 4.04.

Thanks for any help.

To be 100% safe, continue your work in your current 4.04 installation. The switcher only affects your 1946 installation, not your Forgotten Battles installation.

"1946" *DVD* installs to a completely new folder: "...\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" as opposed to "...\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" for FB/AEP/PF.

I'm not sure where the downloaded versions of 4.06 (SoM) and 4.07 (1946) updates install to...

Actally the switcher limits your FMB options to those that were available for that version. So have at it.
