40s WW2 AAF Stinson L-5 AAF 86" Hartzell Wooden Airplane Propeller Army Airforce:
Unmolested 86in Hartzell Army Airforce wooden Propeller. Based on the stamped coding on the edge I’ve read it came from a Stinson L-5 from between 1942 and 1945. I can’t confirm that date but the model code(44k15005) does confirm military usage and the equivalent of model number 8516E which matches to the Stinson L-5. Here is a link to that information: />
Below is the best translation I can read from that coded information on the edge:
AAF D SIGN44K15005
I’m unsure if the second line 1 with the question behind it is a 4 or a 1, it looks like a one to me.
The prop has a nice patina and displays well. It’s been on my wall for 20 years and was dug out of a barn in Story, Wyoming by me at that time.
I’m not well versed in this time of item but am happy to answer question and provide additional photos if needed.
