Description;

One interesting feature of the 004 was the starter, designed by the German engineerNorbert Riedel, which consisted of a 10hp (7.5kW) 2-strokeflat enginebehind the intake nose-cone.A hole in the front of the cone gave access to a manual pull-start if the electric starter motor failed. Two small gasoline/oil mixtanks were fitted within the upper perimeter of the annular intake's sheet metal housing for fuelling the starter. The Riedel was also used for starting the competing BMW 003 engine, and for Heinkel's more advancedHeS 011"mixed-flow" compressor design.
