The first is a flight of J-7s (MiG-21), 4-ship and the second is a much more ominous J-11 (Su-27) 2-ship. With relatively clean racks (still have the multiple ejector racks and fuel tanks) and 4 missiles each I briefly consider taking on the air-to-air role and turn toward the J-11s.
They are jamming heavily (yellow Xs) though and even when I narrow down the azimuth and pour energy at them I can’t get a solid lock.
Choosing discretion over valor I turn away and return to base. Living to fight another day is important in the Falcon 4 campaign. The J-11s show up briefly on my threat receiver but I’m safely in allied territory and not far from base.
It looks like they were on long-range patrol with extended range fuel tanks mounted.
