Coupled with the night vision goggles (NVG) you get an ghostly view both inside and outside.
Two other view variations exist, the HUD only view, which is nice in that it presents an almost full screen HUD presentation. The second is the wide-pit which zooms out slightly to encompass a wider field of view.
How about the terrain? For the new folks, the terrain looks outstanding. Gone are the repetitive tiles that looked more like a board game than simulated earth. For the F4 veterans, the terrain lies somewhere between Tom’s version 1 and version 2 HiTiles. The terrain is surprisingly good if a bit uneven in spots. The terrain around the airfields and towns is very good, but in some of the outlying areas, not quite as good. Presuming Lead Pursuit had to make a decision where to best apply their time, it was a wise choice spending it on the development and bug squashing rather than uniformly rendering the world to a high level of detail.
The clouds look nice, although they are a bit cotton-ball looking on the very fringes. The shadows they cast are spectacular though and really add ambiance to the scenery.
