Jane’s F/A-18 does an excellent job of creating an immersive world to fly in; radio chatter and the support of other aircraft in the world around you combine with the challenge of getting into and out of the target area safely while delivering weapons accurately. Thankfully, the core strengths of Jane’s F/A-18 have been present since day one, allowing modification efforts to focus on adding content to the sim instead of fixing things that are broken. There has only been one patch, 1.01F, and it fixed what few serious issues existed.

Another detailed aspect of the sim is its plethora of guided air-to-ground weaponry, including HARMs, SLAM-ERs, JDAMs, JSOWs, Mavericks, Walleyes, and Skippers.

Jane’s F/A-18 is one of the darkest sims around. Pitch black nights are all too common, especially when you’re being shot at. Make sure to bring a FLIR along to help out, or you could get yourself in some serious trouble.
