Aviation buffs planning Florida vacations who have “been there, done that” at the Mouse House and the other tourist traps in Orlando should instead plan to spend a day or two in the other Florida. No, not South Beach, the other way. Out on the end of the panhandle is the best time investment of your entire trip. The National Museum of Naval Aviation is located in Pensacola, and it is here the die-hard military aviation fan should plan to spend a day or two. Or three.
If you’re one of those guys who built models of Navy airplanes or drew lovingly detailed action studies instead of paying attention in math class — they’re all here. The Douglas NC-4 was much bigger than I thought it was. So was the Martin P5M-2S Marlin, which I thought I’d never get to see. But they have one.
