EA has announced a Spring Patch for Battlefield 4 that will add in some new weapons, re-balancing of current weapons, Gun Master mode, some netcode updates, and more:
DICE continues to constantly improve Battlefield 4 to make the best gaming experience possible. In the Spring Patch (releasing late May for all platforms), we’ve listened to your feedback and gave you what you wanted – more guns!
New Weapons
The Spring Patch will add five new weapons – some old fan favorites, and some new ones that will add to the gameplay of the popular shooter.
New fan favorite Assault Rifle
Picked based on its unique burst gameplay and massive fan desirability
New Carbine
A unique bullpup carbine with built-in vertical grip
New PDW
A unique PDW with built-in silencer
New Sidearm
Unique long range “sniper” sidearm using magnum rounds
New LMG
Magazine fed LMG, which with the new weapons balance, plays in between a belt-fed LMG and an AR – your “run and gun” LMG
In addition to the new weapons, DICE has taken the time to do a complete revamp of the damage, falloff, and suppression models in the game… for every weapon. It’s still unclear just how much this re-balancing act will affect the gameplay. However, the developers have been somewhat open about the changes and encourage curious players to head over to their test environment subreddit.
Gun Master
Gun Master mode, from Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, is making a comeback with this spring’s patch. For those unfamiliar with the mode, it plays more like a Team Deathmatch mode that forces you to swap weapons, from a predetermined list, each time you get two consecutive kills on any opponent on the map. The winner is whoever manages two kills with all the weapons first. Gun Master will have five different presets with up to 18 weapons in each preset:
Standard
This setup contains rifles, machine guns, shotguns and pistols and ends with the M9 bayonet
Classic
Classic rifles, machine guns, shotguns and pistols ending with a M9 bayonet
Pistol
In this preset you can only use different kind of pistols, ending with the survival knife
DLC
This mode will let you play with DLC weapons – including the Phantom bow
Troll
Seeing how Gun Master is a “party mode”, we had to make a silly weapon list too! This one starts out with ballistic shields (as weapons) and it’s downhill from there
Netcode Updates
If you’ve played BF4 for any amount of time, especially on the PC, then you’ve ran into crashes and stability issues. DICE’s Spring Patch hopes to address some of these issues with improvements to client stability. While the details of these fixes aren’t yet widely circulated, DICE has said that the fixes are for game’s client and servers, so if you’re crashing due to outdated graphics drivers, you’ll have to fix that on your own.
More to come as further patch notes are revealed!
