Controller Mounting

The G25 wheel and shifter assemblies feature the traditional “C-Clamp” style screw-down mounting clamps, but also come with clip-on spacer blocks for each clamp, to better accommodate thin-profile desktops. Once tightened, each clamp’s screw head atop the wheel and shifter depress flush into the component housing, thereby reducing their visual signature and offering a cleaner look. The grip of both the wheel and shifter clamps are quite good, and I’ve had no movement issues since originally installing them six weeks ago.

The location of the component plugs is also well thought out. As a long-time owner of a Momo Racing FFB wheel, I have sometimes experienced a full or partial disconnect of the pedal cable while driving, due to its plug being on the end of the wheel housing. Partial disconnects of the pedal cable can lead to inconsistent responses from the pedals, and the cause isn’t always obvious to the driver. There’s no chance of that happening with the G25: The underside of the wheel housing has a depression in which the connector plugs for the pedal, shifter and AC power supply are located. These plugs actually face inwards towards the depression, allowing the connectors to remain unmolested and free from unintentional forces. The wires exit the wheel housing via small troughs in the bottom of the housing, which helps keep the entire assembly more firmly attached to your desk.

The only drawback to the cable plan on the G25 might be that the cords are a tad on the short side. This wasn’t an issue with my particular setup, but could be depending on where your surge protector, computer case or USB ports are in relation to your racing rig/desk.

In addition to the clamps, some threaded metal grommets are provided flush-mounted on the bottom of the wheel, shifter and pedal housings, referred to in the documentation pamphlet as “hardpoints for secure mounting”. They look sturdy, but unfortunately no other hardware is provided for them. In theory, it should be possible to use these grommets to hard-mount a G25 to your desk, once you’ve found some compatible bolts... and after some minor surgery on your desk with a drill!
