I think only the camber was. I didn't fool much with the setup, car felt good, just a few minor tweaks really but they could have hurt or helped, I don't know. It's fine margins at these speeds isn't it? Those fastest laps might be much more assym, but then you gotta counter steer down the straights and bah, or maybe they find that extra speed through ride height or tire pressure or something else. I'm lifting a little in to the corners and maybe some can just go flat out all the way around. Setting the car up for the corners, probably can be done. This car is pretty well behaved here.

Ran a couple more MP races yesterday. The track rotation is rather limited. No races at the Nordschliefe, and lots of other tracks. Maybe I have to keep rising in the rankings. Hockenheim, Portimao, Zandvoort (which I cannot load), Sepang, Suzuka with a few exceptions are the main MP tracks, at least in my lobby. Not bad tracks, but there are a lot more. Kinda sick of Hockenheim already lol.

So i've been running leaderboards at these car and track combinations. Like the Mazda MX-5 at Sepang. I want to establish setups at these rather than jump in to a race and be disappointed with how the car handles. Not a big deal, since the default setups are good enough I reckon, but I feel like you can always find more time and consistency with some proper tweaks.

The Formula Junior has been my favorite car to race so far. The players joining are pretty darn fast for the most part. These guys are hanging around the lobby and joining the races at the last moment. My focus is just to bring it home without either leaving the track or making contact with another car. Not concerned with finishing position or overtaking. If a car goes off or spins I'll be by, but otherwise just concentrating on running clean and smooth. Don't really understand how rating works, I guess I have to be moving forward? Overtaking? My rep is going up, but only one race saw the rating increase. That was the Formula Junior at Hockenheim and I had several overtakes when cars has trouble, but they ended up passing me later and I finished where I started, but gained rating points.

In another race I finished where I started, but overtook no one and lost points. No incidents, just consistent lapping, but rating dropped.

I joined a race there in the Ferrari 296, but too late to do any laps, and so had to guess how much fuel I would need for the 25 minutes, and put in 40l, which it turns out is nowhere near enough lol. Had 8 liters left with 8 minutes to go and it must need twice that. Did manage to cross the line after essentially coasting around the last 5 laps, and again lost rating points. I guess rep is the more important one, but I'd like to get the rating back to 1500 at some point if I can.

No wiz at how ratings work, but there´s quite a debate with the newbies on LMU. From what I understand, ratings pretty much work the same way In all sims that have a DR/SR rating system. The same way you can gain rating, you can also lose It and It works over time and prediction...

Let say you quali 10th. but end up In 7th. and you were predicted (by the system) to end up 8th. you´re DR rating will as sure go up in the green. If you also did all clean laps with no obstacle or car hits (no matter whos fault), then you´re SR rating will go up In the green too. You´re DR rating will also take Into account pole positions and race duration. At least in LMU, race duration Is reflected In you´re DR, which means that If you´re In a 1hr. race that will get you a higher rating then a 20min. race.

It basically takes awhile to get you´re rating up due to the fact that It adds or subtracts points depending on how you did In some of the areas mentioned above, or maybe even more that I am not aware of. ACC for example uses ratings even offline, so those can add up to you´re online racing. Don´t know If this Is the case with R3R, most likely not.

I read a post somewhere and the guy sounded like he had the scoop. He was saying that finishing position, laptimes and that sort of thing were not considered. What mattered was staying on track, avoiding contact, and the number of turns in the track was part of the calculation. But the fact that my rating dropped with no off-tracks, no lost positions, good consistent pace and no incident points means there has to be more to it. He was also saying that your rating changes are doubled in the first twenty races, either good or bad, before it settles down after that.

Sorry but that makes no sense, at least the first part of what this guy Is saying. Not only that, I have not seen anybody mention that. The second part can make sense when It comes to you´re SR rating. Some even farm SR ratings by forcing the system to have them be last on the grid, then simply avoiding contact (you´re last so no cars around you) and not going off track, thus doing a clean race. The problem with that Is that you end up with a higher SR rating, which might be great and leaving you with more headroom to play with, but then the system will match you up with better drivers that will obviously make better timings then you, which In turn will make It more difficult for you to then rise you´re DR rating.

While In that situation, you will then try to overtake, gain positions, and of course make pole position If you can, which will In all cases put you at risk at the sacrifice of you´re beloved SR rating that you so much thought of while farming. So basically what he Is saying In the last part Is true when It comes to balancing you´re overall ratings DR and SR. If It´s doubled or not at the beginning, that would have to do with what sim you´re racing on as not every sim has the exact same system, specially the none official race systems like say LFM.

Here´s a not to In depth video (basic)...

My personal experience has to do more with LMU´s system because that´s were I am racing most online.

Maybe the comments I mentioned were actually about reputation and not rating, which makes more sense.

Having driven a few more races in RR I've noticed a pattern that hurts the experience.

I spot a race in the lobby that I'd like to do. I join and pick my car, and turn a couple practice laps, mostly to get the fuel usage, but also to be sure I have a decent setup and am used to the track.

Game transitions to qualifying, and maybe I qualify fifth out of eight, or whatever. Everyone is now sorted according to their speed, with the fast drivers at the front. All good.

With one minute left all the other drivers quit, and then rejoin, now with no qualifying time. I sit on pole with seven faster drivers behind me. I am only going backwards from here and this is killing my rating. I assume they do it because they will now be overtaking, and therefore increasing their rating. But it sucks for me. I could quit and rejoin too I guess, but that's silly.

A few days ago in a different thread I think, I said that the Formula Junior was the slowest car to take around the Ring, but it's actually the Crossle. Couldn't even break 9 minutes in that one. Ended up driving a number of cars for Ring times yesterday. The V90 V-10 version, and the Formula Race Room US among others. I'm aiming to post a Nordschliefe lap in every car lol.

Not sure why they are doing the rejoin Derek, but It´s something that some players do In LMU which has to do with netcode. The difference Is that LMU Is In EA and not everything works as Intended. There Is a Issue were you have to quit In practice and then rejoin the event for example. In R3R I have no Idea, but like you said, you can do the same silly thing until you find out why they are doing that. Could even be a exploit who knows!

Evidently I'm wrong about overtaking being part of the calculus, but then why do they do it? Is it a netcode thing? Doubt it, as it happens in just about every race and at the same time.

Whatever the reason, I'd like to get a handle on it and arrest my dive. Rep is good, rating is in the tank.

I am pretty happy today smile2 While I ended 11th. my SR rating sky rocketed on a track that I recently learned these past few day´s (Fuji). Wasn't even to sure If I should do an online race but thought, what the heck! Happy with my time too, but my DR goes down as It goes up because I get a negative each time I finish on the second half of the leaderboard In quali, and race.

Just small steps, but happy.

Which sim is that Red?

Do you guys use any apps with RR? I think I'll run it with Crew Chief today and see if I like having it on.

Got in touch with Jussi and sorry to say it isn't the same one as in RaceRoom. He should still join us anyway smile

I’m guessing the sim is LMU.

I tried using CrewChief in RR and while it might be good for providing information and situational awareness in single or multiplayer races, I found it distracting when hotlapping.

I also briefly experimented wth SimHub and AMS2, getting a dash up on my cell phone screen but I never got it to work as an overlay on the pc screen. The latter requires running the sim in windowed mode and generally I thought the entire process was too time consuming.

I used Crew Chief yesterday and like it well enough. I have it all on default so it doesn't do much, there are options that can be enabled still. But I like how it tells me if I'm locking the front or rears, which I can never tell when driving. It also tells you your last lap time if it's a new PB. This isn't crucial since I can just look at the last lap, but on the Nordschliefe its good since you are braking for the first turn as soon as you cross the line and shouldn't be looking at your lap time.

So not a game changer for hotlapping, but not useless either. I also like how it knows the name of every turn on the Nordschliefe. You are locking the left front in to Adenaur Forst. Yes, I certainly am smile

Hit the Ring again yesterday and posted more laps in various cars. If anyone gives one a go, let me know so I can have a crack at it. Turned a 6:49 in one of the DTM Porsches, that was delightful

Yes, it is. In races it is more useful but not useless when hotlapping as we said. It's worth it for just for the brake locks so I know what to do with my bias, rather than hoping to see which tire it is in replay mode, which doesn't even exist in leaderboards

I saw Jens had gotten within three tenths so I gave the Salzburgring event another go and just couldn't turn a faster lap. So close, but i just cannot string one together here. Fixed setups are my kryptonite smile

As mentioned in a different thread, since my return to RaceRoom I have been hotlapping my ass off, trying to climb the ladders, with a goal of rising in the time attack division. Mission accomplished as I have been promoted to class B (top 30%). I would also like to extend my congratulations to Jens and Mike for promotion to class C. Nice work gentlemen, really good driving.

New competitions are up

RaceRoom Competitions

Another one at Sachsenring, this one is the Silhouette class, which I had just driven last night for the first time for the Malaysian challenge. GT3 at Sepang. A cool one in an old 911 at Mid-Ohio too. Nice. Good luck boys!
