Consider the following post:

I think a lot of these problems could be averted by dis-allowing solicitation within the discussion forums themselves. Certainly SimHQ is big enough to cordon off a separate forum for peddlers.

Yes, I'm serious.

The problem with that is, for one thing, the people who might like to use the mod or addon, most likely would never see it. Because they frequent "this" forum or "that" forum. To expect them to go look at a "peddler" forum? C'mon, you know better.

This stuff comes and goes. I frankly welcome all the modders and their art. 95% of them are freely given and well accepted. Once in a while, someone decides that for whatever reason, their work is something they'd like a little pay for. No one is getting rich on this, and you know that too. Greed? Pulleasssssssssseee. Modders put so much time and energy into this stuff, I'm amazed sometimes that everyone doesn't put it up as payware.

I'm not suggesting they do. The free market decides these things and that's where I fall, on the side of free market. You like it, want to pay for it, by all means. Go for it. You don't, don't.

Simple.

My point had nothing to do with the greed aspect. I happen to like incentive. (That's why collectivism never worked). However, as I tried to point out in the monstrous Eisler terrain post, it happens to be the venue in which the pitch is delivered. I believe that you are setting yourselves up for some problems in the future by allowing the forums to become a customer service conduit.

There was a minor scuffle in another forum last summer relating to solicitation. The webmaster made a wise move and disallowed it. It's been quiet since.

It's up to you if you'd prefer to fight these fires.

I feel i must say somthing at this point. I would simply like to point out the problem is only with the SF forum. The MSFS forum which has no doubt th ebiggest payware/donationware/shareware/freeware populance is a fine and mature like forum which nearly runs itself.

Yes the way it was first 'advertsied' via WIP shots was a little funky but that is a problem with that not with payware as a whole. Please dont turn this into a payware witch hunt, I'm part of the payware group these days and with the amount of research and work that can go into products its easy to see why people might want a bit of money if they had spent potential work time on a given project.

I also want to echo others comments that this isnt a money making venture by any means, in fact the little money made tends to go directly into the next project or indeed to help pay for the tools that built the first. Photoshop isnt free and is not inexpensive and thats even more so for 3D work with programs such as max costing of upwards £3000.

Lastly I want to make it clear that I'm not defending what happened in this case nor that payware is the way to go for the TK sims just I did'nt like the way it was starting to spread to encompass other FS areas which get on fine with the various ways 3rd Parties deal with there creations.
