Patch includes:

* New maps:
Bessarabia

* New default skins for planes

409b1m.zip contains maps only.
If you want to install replacement skins then download
409b1m_skins.zip and install over the map pack.
fb_3do20.sfs from the map pack have to be overwritten.


***** CHANGES in GRAPHICS ***********************

* Increased buffer size for stationary objects (buildings etc.)
to prevent freezes under some circumstances.

* Colors of water corrected for Water=2,3,4 modes.
Now when looking down it is no more black/dark blue.

* Optimized Shaders for Nvidia 8X00 series video cards.

* Added a new mode for increased visibility distance.
Visibility increased from 36 km to 72km
under "Clear" and "Good" weather conditions.

Note: This mode is not optimized for performance
(freezes and low fps are possible on low-end systems)
This mode is recommended for fast CPUs & powerful video
cards such as Nvidia 8800 series, ATI X1800 series or better.
With 512 MB of video RAM.

This new feature is available only in "Perfect" game graphics mode.

Also, there is a possibility to have problems with clouds and their
shadows at far distances, due to some engine limitations.

Modify your conf.ini string in the [Render_OpenGL] section
to use this mode:

LandGeom=3 (new mode is ON)
LandGeom=2 (back to normal mode).

* Added a new mode for increased visibility distance.

under "Clear" and "Good" weather conditions.

Don't think so. The way I read it Maddox Games just doesn't have time for a thorough in-house-test so they "outsourced" that job to us

A huge thank you to everyone involved, these are really the best maps this sim has seen. Guys, you finally showed what Olegs engine is able to do - incredible! I wish I could fly over those mountains right now but I'll have to wait until I'm back in the UK So please everyone, take some screens and share them.

I just got through reading the Sim HQ article about the map-builders. My hat is off to you guys. The long hours of work and sometimes frustration is all about to become worth the effort. While I regret that we will probably not see the Avia, Fokker, and other aircraft, I can hardly wait to fly over this masterpiece of programming and marvel at the detail you have included.

Congradulations on seeing the hard work through to the end and having your map included in Il-2's final patch!

As there doesn't seem to be a self-extractor in the zip file could someone tell me where all the bits go? Thanks!

game root directory Compans - but be sure to back up the orig files as this build will most likely not be compatible for online play unless the server has upgraded to the beta

There's also a large (14 page) PDF file for the Bessarabia map documenting historical & climatic conditions - worthwhile reading for the mission makers out there.

You mean just the main IL2 1946 folder? Sorry to be ignorant about this kind of thing!

Back up the follwoing files from version 4.08m....

files.SFS
il2_core.dll
il2_corep4.dll
mg_snd.dll
mg_snd_sse.dll

That's my understanding Compans - just about to try it myself. It would appear that content further down the file tree is preordered into their relevant daughter folders so just cut and paste the contents from the 409b1m and 409b1m_skins folders into your IL2 1946 directory (once you've unzipped them)

But as i say - back up the files you will be replacing to be on the safe side. Not doing so will permanently overwrite existing files.

I think also you need to install the contents of the skins download after the beta patch (if you are installing the new skin pack) as there appears to be a conflict between file sizes of fb_3do20.SFS included on both downloads
