Got my first Distinguished Flying Cross tonight. I was flying with my brother and dad doing a CAS mission in Iron Fortress, 2010. China has been in for a day and Russia just entered. Gunned a bomber, splashed some Sus and MiGs, landing at the alternate (Pohang) with 300 lbs. Awesome flight; the bums left me by myself with the AI wingy, but I guess that means more kills for me! 99bottles

Yes, a shameless self-plug... Hey, it's been a long time coming! Now if I can just avoid landing on a tank once in a while or having my slammers go mad dog after a friendly kills my target, I ought to avoid those "Dereliction of Duty"'s long enough to get promoted beyond a Lt.

Thanks, all. KV - you're right about the IDFL making a difference in the campaign. I find my brain working faster during the BVR setups, my multitasking is easier (or task-saturation limit larger), and the techniques I use against humans are more than enough to thwart the AI.

Another SA-14 loss.

Losing a dedicated wingman/leader is a loss in my book.
Especially human pilots that you care about.

Not exactly sure how it is calculated but the Ace factor comes from dogfightin human pilots.

Joe was in the #1 slot, but I should've been visual on him and called out the launch. We have a tendency to lose cohesion when we're flying as a family. We chat things up way too much. This is Joe's first 2010 campaign, so he's learning some hard lessons about flying too low. He got hit again tonight.

Chrono,

I dont know if this applies to JK or not, but a RL F16 pilot coached me on target area
egress tactics that has helped my survival rate significantly in Falcon. Here goes:

1. Spend the time to program the EWS (Chaff & Flares) countermeasures so that they match the mission and wont be spent too fast.

2. Before entering the target area, note where the most likely areas of Air Defense would be (like areas of population, industry, reconned units; and plan your escape route accordingly.

3. As soon as the A2G weapons are deployed (for dumb weapons), employ countermeasures and start a zig-zag egress that is about 5 seconds each direction and agressive in profile. Repeat for about 5 miles or until out of the reach of the A2G AD. Keeping sight of the overall safe path you planned on earlier and keeping in mind of new threats found as you entered the area.

I have found this to be effective and the survival rate improved.

S!

Tell JK this post was for him from his friend.
