Well, there goes another Battle of Britain Squadron! XXV(F) will be disbanding next week after 93 years of dedicated service to her country. The squadron organised an aviation enthusiast photocall today to mark their disbandment so being a Tornado squadron, of course I was there!!

Picked up a 40D this week, however it seems with my 17-40mm attached it didn't feel like focusing properly, very marginally off which makes me wonder if the lens is goosed, (well I did drop it, but that was nearly a year ago and it seemed to work fine on the 350 since..nevermind, another thread)

Just a few shots for now whilst I go through the rest.

1.

2. A Phabulous Phantom!!

3. Another Tornado Squadron disbanding in the next couple of weeks..56(R) "The Firebirds"

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

Since most of them are Torndao's and Typhoons, I'll post a few of the other jets once I've processed them.

Cheers,
Andy

1st and 2nd are beltas m8y \:\)

unless you need ISO3200, put your 40D in Tone Priority mode m8, and then wonder at the amazingness of what helps make the 40D such an amazing camera!

also - focusing, did you try with a different lens? did you check the focus on the viewfinder, hope your not trying to determin focus on that huge low res LCD on the back..

Cheers buddy!

Whats tone priority mode? lol ;\) No need for iso3200.

I'm going to do some tests tomorrow with my other lenses. To be honest, I wasn't happy that the shots looked in focus in the viewfinder but it was so bright early on that I thought it might of been my eyes. But looking at the results when I got back, my suspicions were right, they're not sharp as I would of expected. The phantom shot above was the 40D + 17-40 but it was "soft" and a little sharpening help it. Same with the two shots of the jets in the HAS. The others shown above (portraits) were taken with 350 + 70-200mm and they came out spot on.

sucks about those units disbanding... So they aren't switching over to the Typhoon huh?

Did anything fly or was it all static?

It does indeed suck. 25(F) from what I've heard are not reforming with Typhoons but we'll see where the squadron standard goes. It has been said that it will be placed inside the church therefore it officially "dies" and won't reform again. However, if the standard is placed at RAF Cranwell then its there to be used again, if the need arises.

Yep, it was a static only day, no flying.

Too bad about the 25(F), but you have to great shots of it there, hb, especially 1. But that F4 looks kind of...misplaced. ;\)

For us Nikon guys, what is "tone priority mode m8?"

Cheers m8y!

Tone priority is a new feature that prevents blown highlights.

sounds like DRO on a Sony or Active D-Lighting on a Nikon.

Think that 2, 6 & 7 are my favs, Andrew.
Glad to see that you had some blue sky.
