Steam yes please if we're voting, very good that is. I just downloaded HL2 again it was still available for download in my Not Installed list after all these years. No need for backup copies. Electronic Arts' downloads manager system is similar

+Whatever for Steam.
Nothing is quite as nice as going through a re-format and seeing a bunch of games on Steam ready to re-install with no muss or fuss.

I've had no problems with Steam downloading and playing Red Orchestra, other than it was very slow download.

Baseless conjecture about features: Is it true that neoq is going to charge 50 USD for a "scratch and sniff scent plate" that only has four scents (Castor oil, cordite, canvas doping, and, for some odd reason, vanilla)? What a ripoff.

If it's Steam-only, I definitely won't be buying, I'm afraid.

Not a huge steam fan either...I will quite happily pay out extra for a DVD. Me too.

Well, in my opinion - Steam is by far the best online game distribution system. Just compare it to EA:s mess (or Boonty!) I've never had any problems with it, Red Orchestra works like a charm with it, installing patches with a dl speed of 5Mb/s... EDIT: Naturally I prefer a DVD, but if it has to be digital download - Steam is my only candidate.

Lots of games on Steam are also available on DVD. Once they've downloaded you don't have to have your internet connection up to play your games.
I used to hate Steam, when it first came out along with HL2 it really wasn't ready for prime time. Recently though its improved a lot and I now have no problem with it.

You don't have to be connected to the Internet at all to play anything on Steam offline.

You don't have to be connected to the Internet at all to play anything on Steam offline. That is true and a very nice feature of Steam. There are, however, two thing I don't like in Steam: 1. You must connect to the Internet at least once to be able to play a game offline. 2. You cannot change your account name or remove games from your account. I know most gamers do not care for such limitations, but to me they are a no go. That is why I would prefer an option to install the game to work with Steam or without it, if Steam support is implemented. I think the best way to use Steam in a game would be to give an option to install the game as a standalone product (with LAN support and no online checks) or as a Steam game. That way one would have the upsides from both distribution methods without the downsides. Of course this would make piracy easier, but let's face it, Steam games are not immune to piracy, but they, too, can be downloaded and played illegally. It is, though, interesting that the games made by Valve sell rather well, which IMO means that either people don't know how to pirate them, or they really think Steam is a great platform.
