Off topic. This has nothing to do with Apache or helicopters, it's just interesting military material. In my opinion.

Generation kill gives quite an insight about the military personnel advancement towards Baghdad in 2003. It's a video series of 7 times 1 hour. The crew in the video is partly professional and partly real Marines (which were in the exact same Battalion the series is depicting!). Generation Kill is originally a book written by an embedded reporter.

I've also read this book about the same advancement in 2003, written by a Marine sniper.

There are many similarities between Generation Kill and this book. The book is pretty heavy at some parts.

This video is from Generation Kill, but could be depicting a scene from the sniper book as well. It is depicting what a Marine sniper do and see. Let me warn you, the video could be somewhat shocking.

Looks cool -- thanks Kassie, I think I will check it out.

I really liked the TV series "Over There" by Producer Steven Bochco (NYPD Blue):

I sincerely hoped for another Generation Kill kind of movie, but it's not the same. I just watched the first episode. In my opinion Generation Kill is far more realistic minded, Over There is more Hollywood style. More drame, more gore. There's even a cliffhanger in Over There. That really Hollywood style.

I don't think Over There is for me. I embrace pure realism, this is too much Hollywood style.

You can, kind of, make the same comparison with FPS (first person shooters). Do you prefer realism, or action?

Always depends on the mood.

Hollywood and sheer drama? CoD 4.

Rescueing the world in a more realistic fashion? OFP.

As for TV series and movies in a military environment, I prefer realism.

When you have been to the sandbox there is no need nor any motivation for such shows. What gets me is all the civilians who get hyped up on this stuff. If you enjoy it so much then maybe you should join the ranks and enlist.Serve instead of being a couch potato.Just don't be disappointed when you find a lot less action then what your used to on the tube and and an extra helping of boredom.

Been there, done that. No sandbox for me though. I found many situations in that show I've encountered myself during various exercises. And that's the thing I love about Generation Kill. It's so damn down to the last aspect of being in the military (regardless of nation) - boredom, talking BS, incompetent superiors, insanity, overly excessive ambitions and coordination issues.
