To paraphrase Al Pacino, "Just when I thought I was done...they pull me back in!"
I've been spending too much money on this sim, I've become obssessed! I've bought planes and scenery and environment enhancers. Finally, I said, that's enough for awhile. How about just sitting down and enjoying the sim?
Then, I was at Avsim looking for some skins, and I saw the ad. The Realflight F6F Hellcat for FSX. Oh no!
Let me get cut right to the chase...I bought it. Good Lord, it's gorgeous.
From what I understand, this is this company's first offering, and they've had quite a start. The only one I've seen even close to this beautiful model is Real Air's Spitfire, which I also have. It had been the favorite Warbird in my hanger...now I just don't know.
You get thirteen paintschemes with this terrific package, in U.S. and Royal Navy markings.
Visually...couldn't be better, really. And the sound of the Pratt And Whitney. A deep throaty rumble you can almost feel in the pit of your stomach. Well done.
Not enough? You can drop the fuel tank, drop the bombs, fire the guns and believe it or not, fire the six HVAR rockets mounted under the wings.
Add to all this, it has the most realistic looking pilot I've yet seen in one of these old Warbird models.
Finally, after all the P-51s, someone has done a WW2 Navy bird that should make any old Gold Wings wearin' flyer proud.
If you do not want to buy anymore add-on airplanes, do not check out this beauty!
Oh...did I say I liked it?

You know, I've yet to take a screenshot. I'm going to learn how to do it and start joining in on the screenshot forum. Thanks. Gonna have to find out how you post 'em in here, too.

That's a nice looking skin, in fact it puts the one on my Abacus F6F to shame. So i have decided to reskin mine hoping it will come out as well as my attempts for the Thirdwire series.

Pardon a silly question, but weren't Grumman being anal about having their aircraft in games? Like WW2 flight games having to do without them? What am I missing?

Realflight, the company that developed the sim aircraft must of paid Grumman the fee in order to produce the aircraft.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
Memories of CFS2 in that screenshot, but it never looked so good.

You guys have to get flight recorder (fs-recorder.net) so you can actually fly formation with yourself and create some targets for mock fights.

What is the pit like?

And the controls?
They all there and working?

Is she a fly by the book kind of plane (ala Shockwave) or a quickstart only?

Cheers
Stuntie.

The cockpit is certainly in the running for the title of best WW2 pit in FSX. And everything is clickable. As a matter of fact you can't fire any of the ordnance unless you click on some of those fuse and arm switches.
Yeah, she flies realistically, from all the reading I've done. The Hellcat had a reputation for being an easy airplane to fly, and one of the easiest Navy birds to bring aboard a carrier. She simply had no bad habits. Niether does the model.
And, oh yeah! Leadbelly. Wanna have some some fun? Take off from SFO INTL and fly out towards the Golden Gate Bridge. There's an aircraft carrier out there.. Go shoot some take off and landings.
An old Essex class ship would be more correct, of course, but what the heck!

A few shots of the pit,it's really well done, most if not all the controls are functional, the only thing I can't figure out is how to fold the wings[but the documentation says they fold]I've never seen an old Warbird pit so detailed.

Just a update,The wing folding mechanism does work but it needs to be mapped to a key or joystick button via the FSX controls menu.
