There seems to be a dilution of effort. Combat Ace gets about twice as many FE postings as the 'Official' site at Third Wire, with very little left over to be placed at SimHQ.

SimHQ does host a TeamSpeak channel for FE, but as you know, there is not a very active mmp FE community. Maybe the second patch, due soon, will address some of the more daunting issues of FE multiplay.

But to back up a bit, how many forums should exist? Should each have a specific purpose?

I hope that FE is one of the flight sims that SimHQ will host, but I am not optimistic - the FE mmp community is too small. For my money, even with all its mmp faults, FE is the best combat flight sim out there (no experience with IL2 1946) and SimHQ would be a great host.

As much as I like WWI air combat and First Eagles, IL-2 (1946) is just too much to pass up flying and especially in multi-player with all the great coop missions and campaigns to join friends with. And it keeps getting better.

Is there a reason why one should not download First Eagles from Third Wire - or any game for that matter? Thank you

Thirdwire's site is a great way to get the current fully patched version of their flightsims, just be absolutely sure to burn at least one backup copy to CD or DVD to avoid losing the sim to harddrive failure!

There's not even that much traffic on CA for FE nowadays, not like it was 6 months ago, certainly. Partly because all the "big" discoveries have been made, many "must have" planes are now out, and people are waiting for the next patch/addon to solve whatever limitations they've run into.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't much improvement in multiplay in the upcoming release/patch. Forum traffic is slow everywhere and has been for several weeks. We're still getting new A/C models from modders but a further developments in FM/DM models and such is kind of on hold until the new version is out. Not a plethora of topics to discuss at the moment.

Hey Uriah,

Well, I've checked out the homepage for "First Eagles" as well as Third Wire's home page for the game and it does look great. I've enjoyed RB3D for a long time, but am willing to give "First Eagles" a try. It would be good to have two good WWI simulators instead of just one. I'm having trouble finding it, though, onliine and in retail stores. I don't have a credit card. Does Thirdwire accept money orders for payment for their digital download? Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying it out, hopefuly soon. Thanks for letting me know about it.

MicahSJ,

I do not know about other methods of payment. I do know you can use PayPal but I think that too requires a cc. For now, the only way I know of to get the game is a download. You might wait to see if you like the game by just getting the original and the official patch. Try it, then wait tell the patch comes out that will bring the game up to the expansion pack level. That patch of course will not have the extra planes and battle fields. Those planes and battlefields and such made by the community will have a problem when it comes the the flight models because the code is different now for the fm. Much more detail resulting in more of the things we wanted.

S! Uriah

Thanks; I'll just keep looking for one here in the USA. I will definitely try out the original with the patch first and then go from there. Besides, I'll probably only be able to afford to pay for the original right now anyway.

S!
