Hi.

Just bought black shark, is it just me or is the graphics in the cockpit bad? looks like its made in paint some of it.

And does the landscape get better if i install DCS a-10? If it is a merged install?

and one more thing, is it possible to zoom out the view in the cockpit? like in IL2 etc, so you dont sit so close to the instruments

Black Shark has one of the most beautiful cockpits I've ever seen, you must be seeing something you're not supposed to be seeing, or not seeing something you are supposed to be. What are your graphics settings in game like and what kind of graphics card do you have? I know on the A-10 beta someone had complained about bad cockpit graphics when they had their video card set to 'performance' mode in 3D settings instead of quality, but I can't find their exact post.

In answer to your DCS A-10 question: no. Right now DCS A-10 is a beta, the installs are not merged at all. Not sure what the situation will be like when it's finally released. I have them both, I don't really notice a whole lot of improvement to the landscape in the A-10, but it could just be because I'm 90% focused on the cockpit still.

You can both zoom and move your head all over the place in BS. Obviously, you can use the mouse to look, also the mouse scroll wheel to zoom. But also, you can hold down the middle mouse button and move the mouse around to move your viewpoint around the cockpit without rotating. Holding the middle mouse button and scrolling the wheel will move your head forward and backward. Best mouselook ever, in my opinion!

ah ok thanks, will try to zoom with the mouse, i use track ir to look around.

in the cockpit there are many areas that just dont look good, just a plain grey surface with no details at all, looks like its been filled with color in paint or something.
maybe its my settings i dont know, but all is maxed out, look at the cockpits in rise of flight they are stunning compared.

and my graphic card is nvida gtx470 1280mb

How about the cockpit instrument resolution setting? Is that maxed out? I have to say that for me, the 3D cockpit in Black Shark looks fantastic.

Set nvidia drivers texture quality to high or highest, this will kill blurriness of some textures, but anyway there are some cockpit textures here and there that are very low quality (some lateral bars for example).

Hmm. yeh, the cockpit looks awesome on my system and Im only running a 9600gt.
for the views, I set my middle mouse for turning my head and my side mouse button for moving it, eg. if I click middle mouse I cand turn my head, then click again and I can click on my instruments, if I hold the side button I can shift my head position, including moving it closer. Ive found that moving my head closer by 2 clicks, keeps my hud in the display.

Looks amazing to me. For reference I took some screenshots in my current 1600x1200 resolution (the display is actually 1920x1200, but in-game I prefer the narrower resolution with black bars to the left and right because more of the vital instruments are visible). All screenshots taken from the very beginning of the Quick Start mission.

The default cockpit, all texts and labels in English:

DRAGONs version of the Sharkpit, all texts and labels in English (obviously my preferred pit :-) )

If your cockpit looks anything like on these screenshots and that seems bad to you, your standards are obviously much higher than mine. If it looks differently (as in: worse), you're probably right to complain. :-)

I didn't really change any graphics settings on my machine for Black Shark (GeForce 8800GT) and am quite happy with the way the sim looks even with the default cockpit. On the other hand, I started flying Black Shark with 1280x1024 resolution. The new display with the 1600x1200 resolution made the cockpit look *much* better, most importantly the instruments became more readable.

I also agree that Rise of Flight contains very beautiful cockpits, but I haven't flown that in months so I can't really compare it to Black Shark right now. :-/

yes my standards are very high in 2010 (i know black shark is not from 2010) :p, but graphics isnt everything in a game especially a sim, but i have to say i was a bit disappointed.

the terrain is the same as in lock on back in 2003 very color less and foggy when you get high, but i guess i could try some mods. and your pics of the cockpit doesnt show the *paint* made surfaces.
if you look on your left side inside the cockpit this is very apparent.

Very few flight sims have graphics as good as BS or better for that matter. Flight sims have a lot of things going for them that standard games with high end graphics don't.

Things like:

A huge map (225000 square kilometers in BS)
Detailed physics, system and damage modeling (a huge strain on proc. power)
AI routines (not just flyable AI but the grounds AI and the map to interact with
A wide user base on many different machines ranging from low to high end
etc......

As mentioned a lot of mods to make the sim look better are out there. I recommend Modman (mod manager) and heading over to www.lockonfiles.com the community were most if not all BS and LOMAC mods are hosted. There are some HDR mods that really make a difference but my opinion is that there is no better modern combat flight sim regarding graphics and gameplay.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

That is amazing work on that pit

Ahh CLOD never in the history of Simming has so much been promised and so little given.

However I want to thank Team Fusion for keeping the Dream Alive.
