I notice that there doesn't seem to be a control customisation screen - is there a way to disable the default joystick button bindings so that we can use an external joystick keymapping program (like Joy2Key)?

No, there isn't any way to (un)map joystick buttons or keys.

are you sure? check www.eechcentral.com and search for "Saitek Profile Editor"

I believe fancy joystick key binders (such as the Saitek one) will work by intercepting the joystick button events (e.g., replacing 'trigger press' with 'space bar'), but less fancy ones (like joy2key) don't do this (they say 'trigger press' as well as 'space bar'). I noticed when testing that this resulted in e.g., when attempting to fire rockets with a salvo of 1, two rockets being fired: one from the built-in joystick trigger event, and one from joy2key seeing the trigger press and simulating a spacebar (fire weapon) keypress.

In any case, I've just finished (bar a little more testing) a mod which will add the behaviour I want. I'd like to eventually have fully remappable controls in-game but I have exams coming up so this is probably all I'll get done for a little while.

Yeah, that have been a problem to DIY joysticks using joy2key or svmapper. I made center placed cyclic for eech before, but there was no way to change the default bindings completely. Good luck!

As a workaround, you can use a more advanced mapping software (e.g. GlovePie) and virtual joystick, PPJoy. Then the only events the game will see will be the ones you script.

Hazman, I don't suppose you can share what you've got? I'd like to do something similar (the default button bindings are awkward with my joystick). I think seeing the changes you've made would help me make similar changes.
