@ Dwarden - on another note - is there any plan to add a 'fly by' camera view for player aircraft?
...see - I'm a serious flight simmer

I could not agree more! Thanks Dwarden for listening...knowing you guys are hearing us is a HUGE plus. BTW, after growing up in an aviator's household, and becoming one at an early age, I've learned one very important thing about pilots (virtual or otherwise): "If they're not #%&*$# about something, they're not happy!" All in all a very good product...can't wait for it to get better. Thanks again, BBall

Dwarden, belated welcome to the forums! And thank you for sharing information about your new product. There's a lot of very happy helo pilots out there right now!

the game is fun, but damn ugly. Building textures are blurry at the highest settings. Although i'm wondering if there's not a bug here. I was messing with video settings trying to get things looking ok and occasionally i see a flash of a high res building texture pop in, but i can't ever get them to show in game. The distance at which textures go to their current blurry highest level in game is ridiculously low for a helo game.
The game is fun but after 10 missions or so is getting sorta samey feeling. Alot of "go here, face a certain direction for a certain amount of time" type missions.
The flight model while not 100% accurate has something that black shark lacked bad. In black shark it never felt like the helo had any mass at all. You could just flick it around at will. These birds feel like they have realistic weight. When you go from a light to a heavy helo you can feel the difference immediately.
This seems like a game with potential i just hope it realizes it's potential. I'm having fun, i just wish it wasn't so ugly and had such insanely low res textures. That actually sounds like a texture streaming issue. Have you tried just bumping all settings down to the lowest and see what happens? It could very well be some part of the render pipeline is especially taxing on your graphics hardware and as a result the engine tries to compensate by streaming lower mipmaps of all textures.

Tried a pinnacle landing on a skyscraper, if you think carrier landings are hard....(shuddder...)
I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

i seen several reports on HD68xx/HD69xx cards where textures looks less quality even if they should be higher we will investigate it in cooperation with AMD as fast solution comes to my mind is fiddle with memory settings (default/normal vs High/Very High) as often leaving it at default solves a lot anyway some people complain about low res-textures on closeup but they not realize the game would need additional N GB to have that level of fidelity in this case i bet community made texture packs or maps will improve it (on cost of HDD space note: our engine love SSD so think about that too

I was getting some texture streaming issues on my 5870 but seem to have cured them with memory on default and turning down the view and fog distance a bit.
Enjoying TOH now (congrats on a great release dwarden) and looking forward to the support/enhancements that make BI titles some of my favorites.

It could very well be some part of the render pipeline is especially taxing on your graphics hardware and as a result the engine tries to compensate by streaming lower mipmaps of all textures. I have a gtx 580, a quad core processor, 8GB of ram. If it's that taxing then there's a ton of people in for a world of hurt.

Memory settings change along with texture settings. SO if i set textures to very high, memory goes to very high. So messing with memory does no good since it gets changed anyhow when i set textures. I have 8GB of RAM, and 1.5 GB on my video card. How much more ram do i need? The game itself is never going over 1GB or so in task manager. Not buying a SSD. They still are not reliable enough or cheap enough per GB to be worth it. The building textures parked 150ft away in my helo look like they are 128x128 textures. But like i said sometimes in between settings i can see a quick flash of something higher res. I'm running the 285.62 drivers if that helps.

@swampthing I was having similar issues with the pre-order beta, and setting Memory to "default" while Texture and Object to "High" and turning off PIP solved it for me. Here's the settings I'm using now and getting good textures as well as FPS, you may want to give it a try just in case:
