I was fortunate enough to travel to the gliding mecca of Omarama New Zealand to compete in the 20 meter class in the NZ National Gliding Championships. After 10 contest days, 45 flight hours, over 3800km flown, we took first place by just 100 points! Simply amazing flying in the mountains using thermals, ridges, and wave. Our highest altitude was on the last day when we flew to 19,300 feet.

Beautiful. Congratulations. A great achievement. You are quite an accomplished pilot. I'm envious.

Thanks for posting.

Congratulations and thanks for posting those beautiful shots. Any competition in NZ has tough competition, as Omarama is a global mecca for soaring.

I learnt to fly gliders there and it is an amazing place. I haven't got to fly in Omarama yet but its a dream of mine.

Wow... I'm speechless.

Man, I gotta get back into gliding.

Glide Omarama has a Learn to Fly course that is 8 days long and includes 30 tows and unlimited flight hours. Take a vacation to NZ and learn to fly while you are there!

GlideOmarama "Learn to Fly" course website

Next season I'll take my girlfriend and she can learn to fly while I am flying around the mountains.

Soaring is the most complex and artistic of all flying skills (in my humble opinion). I've had a glider rating for 20 years and am still clueless. I see some of our better guys leave in the morning and come back In a formation low pass at 4 in awe. In 1-26s no less! I'm envious of the skill. Congrats!
