Hi all, CombatSim started out a long time ago as a great site for simulation news; then it went pay-for; then it was back for free offering great news bits about sims and other software and hardware. This site was updated on almost daily basis but suddenly the updates stopped on Jan 28 and that's how it sits. Anyone have any news as to what happened? There is no announcement or message on the site itself. Their forum is still lightly active and completely oblivious to what is happening on the main site. Thanks.

You know, there never really was much of a rivalry. We were slightly jealous of CSim at the time, they were the biggest dog on the street but we were pretty happy being a nice number 2 at the time.
I remember the CSim exodus very well. I wasn't a staff member here 6 months when it happened. It was like a people bomb dropped on SimHQ. All of a sudden our site hits quintrupled almost overnight. It almost crippled the site host. It was awesome but scary at the same time. I felt sorry for poor Dan 'Crash' Crenshaw. He was the site owner at the time and while he loved the increase in popularity it really strained his ability to keep up.
Those days were turbulent that was for sure. We all adjusted of course and now many of the old Csim guys are more devoted to SimHQ than they ever were before. We really appreciate all of the help and effort that all of the 'refugees' brought to SimHQ. We appreciate all of the old timers that were here to help bring the folks into the fold. It is cool to see the guys that were once 'newbies' bringing new folks along and helping new subscribers.
Remember this, this site does as well as it does entirely because of what you guys, the readers and posters bring here. If you guys weren't interesting, if you guys weren't helpful then this site would die. The writers, administrators and moderators are only facilitators here, you guys are the site.

Thanks for the info all.
Yep, those were the heady days when Flight Sims were still made in the USA.
Here's hopping the site and Donster will be up and updating soon.

Partly simple economics - pay vs free - and when someones #2 and you #1 - you can't afford to give them an edge - CSim gave SimHQ that edge and SimHQ had the talent to take advantage of it.

I had a lot of good times at Combatsim. I didn't post much then, I was the shy retiring type, but I enjoyed it. And at the same time, I would come over and visit at SimHQ and I liked it here as well.
Then the pay for thing hit. I stayed on as a paying member at CSim for a year, but I found I was more and more at SimHQ. I transitioned and have been here ever since.
We have a great community and many of you have been in it for quite some time. I value the friendships made and the fun we've had.
May it continue.

CombatSim, EAW & Mig Alley. I loved that site then and learned a lot. Anyone still have MarkShots Guide? Edit: Oops! Found it right here! MarkShot

I was a regular at CombatSim.com too, though not so much in the forums.
Also, Frugal's World as well.
Those were the glory days of air combat sims. Seemed like a new one was coming out every week back in those days.

I was part of that exodus too, even though this incarnation of me looks like being a SimHQ newbie...
