You really can't read can you?

I said nothing about other flight sims.

DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map
When not working on the Nevada map, our map team is making steady progress on the Strait of Hormuz Map. Most of the airfields are now placed and a great deal of work is being done on manually improving the elevation mesh and textures. However, this map still has a long way to go with items such as airfield taxi routing, water textures, airbase lighting, ground object placement, navigation aids, and ATC still needed to be addressed.

April newsletter they stated they are along way off on this map.

Yet in November they promised a December 2014 release. Just a great example of a flawed buisness model.

Dont compare FPS, 3rdPS, or games not of the same genre to a flight sim,

Its like comparing a ford desiel pickup to a battery powered hyundai.

So which forum do I go to for actual discussion about DCS World? This forum has appeared to have morphed into the ED public relations discussion forum.

I have to agree with some of the posts here.

Here is my perception. I think ED should release Nevada and Straights of Hormuz with lower resolution textures (if that is, indeed the reason why it cannot run on edge). Further, if the buildings and assets polygons are too high, they should release lower LOD models.

If this were done, they could sell the terrains now.

With the current business model, it is conceivable that a Nevada Version2 could be sold when edge comes out

My 2 cents.

There are several underlying technologies that prevent that.

Terrains built for.edge are.not built to.run at all under the DX9 Engine, which is why the currebt map when ported to the new engine does not gain any of the clipmapping features, just effects and lighting.

There is absolutely no deference. It's a video game 3d world.

And edge technology isn't all that groundbreaking.

As for DCSW2,
Quote:
DCS World 2 Status

Work continues on DCS World 2 with progress on file structure, clouds and other effects, changes to the front-end GUI, and of course improvements to performance. We are still striving for a late-December 2014 release, but if debugging takes longer than we hope, it is possible that the release could be pushed to January/February 2015. As always, stated dates and timeframes are our best estimates and not promises.

DCSW has a extremely large visible radius, several hundred effects, and upwards of 100,000+ objects

Not all graphics engines are the same, like at all.

If you honestly believe every GFX Engine is the same, you do not have any actual knowledge or experience in the field and should not be.judging a company or individual that does.

Wow. That shows just how little is understood about the technology we use versus the technology that others create for us. It is not that simple. Not at all.

I can make a 3D game in seconds using any available engine. You want me to import a huge map with hundreds of thousands of objects, geo-referenced and scaled accurately, at a speed that can accomodate a flight sim at (or above) a target of 60 FPS as I fly through the environment with serious speed and I'm going to need years to do it. And that ignores how that engine has to share processor time with the math of a multi-player flight simulator and everything that has to be added to it.

As for the "why am I still here" question..

I've invested enough time in SimHQ in the past more so than most of the AntiED Fanclub and still participate in other sections, Im not gonna just up and stop posting,

Heres the question, dont ask me why Im still here, if they hate ED so much and DCS, and most of the members in the fanclub have stated they no longer play DCS, then why are they still here constantly posting their AntiED propaganda in every thread possible.

Ok, it was changed to 2015 prolly cuz people assumed Winter 2014 meant Nov/Dec 2014, when WINTER 2014 EXTENDS into Mar 2015.

Or something like that.

TBH Skate, I'm pretty sure most folks here don't hate ED or DCS, on the contrary, but this debacle surely has been going on for far too long and also the way that ED has handled it all is, I think why fans, yes fans, get a little miffed.

Just my tuppence worth,

Mick. smile

Ive stated before I understand frustrations, we all do, even ED,

But complex software sometimes has debugging that extends longer than anticipated, just ask Rockstar Games.

I'm sorry but this is the worst defense you could have possibly ever said. Personally, I have bought every single thing from ED/DCS (every module, pre-order, beta w/e). I even did a giveaway for a set of Crosswind Rudder pedals for the DCSWWII kickstarter. With saying all of that, I have only played DCS for a few hours. Most of it is time constraints, other reasons are the MP ability (dedicated server stuff etc.) still has yet to arrive. But regardless, you can see I vested money into everything ED/DCS has offered.

But the thing you need to realize, SkateZilla, is that all the dissent, all the negative opinions about DCS are from people that actually like DCS. When you stop getting people posting dissent and those people stop posting all together that's when you should be worried. So again, realize, people are posting because they like it!! You may not be able to see it or you just have this automatic defense mechanism that takes off when someone posts some dissent, but dissent is not a bad thing. Dissent is a good thing.

Oleg and Ilya knew this well. They encouraged their customers to criticize everything. And boy howdy, the banana forums were just that. A mad house of the good, bad, and the ugly. But even the bad and the ugly, played the ever living sh!t out of the game. And even if their concerns weren't met, they still enjoyed it.

So I've been reading as a distant observer to this forum for a while and the one thing that is absolutely shocking to me is how you and other members close to ED feel the need to lambast everyone you don't agree with. If you're truly representing ED, you and others like you do a huge disservice to ED in doing so.

Whether you want to agree with me or not, as an outsider looking in, every single thread turns into a moderator or a beta tester from ED thinking they need to defend ED from dissent. And that's the problem. You don't defend against dissent. You embrace it. That's a customer and his opinion. Regardless if it's negative, dissenting, or even a joke, that's still a customer talking about the game/team you represent.

But realize, when that person has finally had enough, whether that is through people that talk down to this person, or through the action/non-action of the game itself, when that person has truly lost interest or "hate" the DCS/ED or w/e, you'll know it when they STOP posting.

So please, take a back seat to it. If someone says "Extremely Delayed Graphics Engine" with a smiley face, that means they are having a good laugh. They still love the game and what ED/DCS is trying to do. Same can be said for a myriad of other things that you and others come here and criticize people for. There's over 60 people viewing the DCS section right now (more than any section on SimHQ). That should be reference enough for people who like what ED is doing.

Hope you take this to heart. You should never tell someone, let alone a paying customer, to go play something else because they are posting what you perceive as negative opinions. Embrace the hate. And realize those people who post do it because they still have a vested interest in the game in the 1st place. Think about it.
